The popular Arklow clothing store A|Wear closed its doors today leaving staff in limbo weeks before Christmas.
The store, which employs eight people in the town, had its shutters pulled down this morning and staff were told the store was closing. Employees are also in the dark about wages that are owed to them by the company.
An employee at A|wear said, “I just feel terrible for all the girls here. At this time of year too; we’ll have to try not let it ruin our Christmas.”
The boutique fashion store has been in Ireland since 1966 and employs a total of 117 full-time and 241 part-time staff in the Republic and the North.
The company had blamed high rents and increased competition for its difficulties.
