A local woman from Bray has spoken out about her struggle with weight loss, depression and anxiety, and told how Unislim has helped turn her life around.

Unislimmer Of The Year 2013 finalist Jean Kelly

Jean Kelly lost 7 stone 11 pounds since joining Unislim in September 2012 and is now a Unislimmer of the Year 2013 finalist.

Jean had an injury while working in 2008 which left her unable to return to her job as a horticulturist.

Due to this, Jean’s confidence took a knock which led her suffer bouts of depression and anxiety attacks. Instead of going out and enjoying her life she avoided social situations and opted to stay at home.

“I became depressed and started to drink and smoke too much,” Jean said. “I quit drinking and smoking five years ago and turned to food instead, eating junk food and barely moving from the sofa. I reached my rock bottom and was only surviving, not living. I was watching life from the sidelines.

“I joined my class thinking, ‘Here we go again, another thing I will fail at’. But to my surprise the weight came off steadily week by week and my energy levels went through the roof as a result of eating healthy foods.”

Before joining Unislim, Jean had liver problems and her knees and back were constantly aching. Now that she is at a healthy weight, those problems are gone and she is full of energy.

“I finally feel like I am living my life now and was so honoured to be chosen as one of 12 Slimmer of the Year 2013 finalists from Ireland.”

The finals are on in the Marker Hotel in Dublin on November 13th and voting has opened online.

“This time last year I was only beginning my journey and now my depression and anxiety are under control. Bad days are few and far between and I am fit and loving life.”

Jean has opened her own Unislim Club in the Wilton Hotel on Thursday evenings from 7-8 and says that helping others to reach their goals is her passion.
