Two elderly brothers were left shaken after raiders broke into their home close to the village of Rathnew.
The incident took place only minutes into the New Year.
One of the men answered a knock on the door just after midnight and as he was doing so a raider gained entry to the house through the back door.
The men were forced into a room which they were locked into along with their two dogs.
The raiders started to search the house but fled when one of the elderly men’s phone rang loudly.
A family member told WicklowNews.net: “They are really shaken and very upset, luckily the phone is set very loud and it was a text message to wish them a happy new year.”
A similar incident took place close to Roundwood last month when three elderly brothers were threatened with a hammer and firearm after four raiders burst into their Roundwood home.
