CONGRATULATIONS TO JOHN MARKHAM !!

John Markham is Chairman of Greystones + District Horticultural Society.

President Michael D. Higgins has requested dahlia beds for Aras an Uachtarain.

This summer the Aras gardens will be full of dahlia blooms.

Among them will be specially named Dahlia “John Markham”.

Well done to John for this very unique honour !!

We are all very proud of him and his work with GDHS.

 

ST. DAVID’S SECONDARY SCHOOL PRODUCTION OF “FAME”

Now on this week in the school,  21 to 24 January, 2014.

Fabulous show and wonderful entertainment to the usual high standard.

CAROLINE FOUNDATION

LONGEST AWARENESS RIBBON CHAIN CHALLENGE

The Caroline Foundation is organising a world record fund raising event for 11 May 2014.

A five mile ribbon chain will be formed from Bray to Greystones.

Route will follow Bray seafront over Bray Head via Cliff Walk to Greystones seafront.

This will be a Guinness World Record Challenge.

 

3,000 people will be needed to line the route.

100 groups of people,  with 30 people in each group,  will create the ribbon chain.

Each ribbon holder will be asked to contribute €10.

Can you help?

 

The Caroline Foundation was established in memory of Caroline Dwyer Hickey.

Caroline passed away in 2013,  aged 35,  after a nine year battle with cancer.

Caroline grew up in Greystones and her family lives here.

They formed the Caroline Foundation to help the Cancer Clinical Research Trust.

This event will help the Trust plus Bray Cancer Support and Greystones Cancer Support.

 

People are needed to help create the ribbon chain and to line the route on the day.

GREYSTONES STUDIOS SONGWRITING WORKSHOP WITH LUAN PARLE

8 and 9 February 2014,  from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Performance for family and friends at 5:00 p.m. on the second day.

Workshop is aimed towards 9 to 18 year olds but there are no age restrictions.

Cost is €50.

The workshop focuses on songwriting,  performance and the latest developments in the music industry.  By the end of the workshop,  budding songwriters will have written and performed an original song collectively.  This is a unique and fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience of the day to day work in the music industry whether you aspire to be performers,  songwriters or work in music administration.  IMRO

GREYSTONES CANCER SUPPORT BEREAVED SESSIONS

Greystones Cancer Support Centre,  La Touche Place;  2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Bereavement is a very special process and a very special time.

Special series of four sessions for those bereaved in the last year or two through cancer.

Series starts Monday,  27 January, 2014 for four months.

Series will be professionally facilitated.

GREYSTONES CANCER SUPPORT STOP SMOKING COURSE

Begins Monday,  3 March,  2014,  just in time for Ash Wednesday.

 

NEW LA TOUCHE WINE COURSE IN 2014     

La Touche Wines will once again run its popular wine course.

Course will start 10 February, 2014 and will run for five Monday nights.

Venue is La Touche Wine Shop,  La Touche Place;  7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

 

Course is designed for people who would like to know more in a relaxed + informal way.

Tutor is Paul Coleman WSET DIP who has a vast knowledge and passion for wine.

He also has a gift for imparting this to others.

 

Over five weeks,  you will learn about the classic wine areas of the waorld.

There will be a tasting of a selection of wines each evening.

A special wine and food evening will conclude the course on Week 5.

A selection of wine will be matched to a surprise menu at a selected venue.

 

Course is limited to 20 people only.

KING OF GREYSTONES TRIATHLON EARLY REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Event will be held 10 August.

Volunteers and participants needed.

 

Now in its 13th year,  King of Greystones raises money for charities.

It is run by volunteers.

 

Beginners and teams are also welcome.

Early bird registration is €50 or €150 for a team.

BUILT HERITAGE JOBS LEVERAGE SCHEME 2014

Applications are invited for the scheme which hopes to leverage private capital in a number of small,  labour intensive projects to repair and conserve Protected Structures listed in Co. Wicklow’s various development plans and,  in certain cases,  for the conservation of structures within Architectural Conservation Areas.

 

The scheme will be administered by the Wicklow Local Authorities with a fixed amount of funding allocated from the fund in 2014.

Remembering Delia Murphy

A one-woman show performed by Delia’s niece,  Carmen Cullen.

With musical accompaniment by guitarist,  Gerry Anderson.

Two of her well known songs are:  The Spinning Wheel + If I Were a Blackbird.

Delia gave a unique contribution to Irish song and the history of Irish msic.

She was a pioneering folk singer in Ireland and abroad in the forties and fifties.
