Couples in Arklow are the country’s most romantic shoppers, according to figures released by Tesco.
A new survey carried out by the supermarket chain has shown that lovers in the town are the more likely to spend big on Valentine’s Day than anywhere else in the country.
Arklow also came in second last year and has knocked Bailieborough in Cavan off the top spot.
Kilrush in Co Clare is the second most romantic town, while Celbridge in Co Kildare is in third.
Tesco also revealed that 33 per cent of all cards are sold at around 6pm on February 13 and men spend more than women on the card, on average €5.35 to €4 for women. However, more husband cards are bought than wife cards.
People are also more likely to buy sparkling wine that champagne for their special day.
Striploin steak is the meal of choice for Tesco shoppers on Valentine’s Day, followed by strawberries and cream.
