A new cashless parking system, which will allow motorists to use on-street parking without visiting a parking meter, has been launched in Wicklow Town.
The new ‘Parking Tag’ system can be used to pay for parking using a mobile phone and credit or debit card.
Motorists can also choose to have a text message reminder when their parking time is due to elapse. This will allow them to top up their parking tag remotely for a period of three hours, eliminating the need to return to their car to feed the meter.
A physical tag is not actually required for the vehicle, instead motorists must register their vehicle’s licence plate online at www.parkingtag.ie.
A minimum balance of €10 must be kept on a user’s account and when this is reached Parking Tag will automatically top up by a nominated amount using the registered credit/debit card.
Speaking at the town council monthly meeting, Cllr Irene Winters, welcomed the introduction of parking by phone “I used it last week and it is a pleasure in bad weather to be able to pay for your parking before you leave your car.”
Parking Tag complements the existing Pay & Display model and works in every paid parking area of Wicklow Town. Once a customer has registered with Parking Tag they can also use the system in Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin.
Motorists can register to use the service online at www.parkingtag.ie or by phone 0818 300 161. Alternatively Smartphone holders can download the ‘Parking Tag’ App.
