Scoil Nichlos Naofa News

Our sincere thanks to all involved in the opening of Solas which was carried out by Fr. Douglas last week. Many thanks to all who donated food and to the Parents Association for serving refreshments on the night.

Well done to the school choir who sang at the Peace Proms Concert in City West last Saturday. Many thanks to Deirdre Doyle and Ciara O’Connor for their involvement. 

Enrolment forms for next year’s Junior Infant classes are now being accepted. Closing date for enrolment is Friday February 28th.

The Credit Union Quiz took place last  Friday. The winning U11 team included Oisin Doyle, Rory Martin, Ella Moran and Jack Reid. The winning U13 team included Darragh Dillon, Mollie McCormack, Tom Moran and Rachel Murtagh. These teams now progress to the next round which will probably take place in Toughers of Naas in the coming weeks.

Irish Wheelchair Church Gate Collection

The annual church gate collection for the Irish Wheelchair Society will take place at Masses next weekend February 15th and 16th 2014. Your support would be appreciated.

Votes of Sympathy

At the recent Gormanstown /Usk Group Water Scheme AGM, chairperson Jeff Thompson proposed a vote of sympathy to the families of Betty Thompson, Mary Harney, Maureen Dennis and Mrs Guing. A minutes silence was observed.


Sympathy Is extended to the Crampton Family, Colbinstown on the death of George Crampton. George who was predeceased by his wife Marion and son Allen is mourned by his sons David and Phillip, daughter Jane, daughters –in –law Lesley and Anita, son-in-law Alan, grand-children James, Allen, Alison, Tom, Mark, Helen, Emily, Louise and Robert and many relatives and friends. Funeral service took place in Dublin on February 8th 2014.      

Baltinglass & District Country Markets

The market re-opens Valentine’s weekend Saturday February 15th 2014. Get all your Valentine Chocolate treats along with the usual country market produce, cakes, homemade jams, chutney, eggs and crafts. Looking forward to seeing you all at Stratford Lodge, Old School Lane, Baltinglass.

Exercise and Fitness Course

“Exercise and Fitness” is a Fetac Level 5 module being held at Colaiste Eoin Hacketststown, starting 14th March for 6 Fridays.  Fee is €100..places limited.  All enquiries to 059 6471198

The first outing for 2014 will take place on February 22nd in Tulfarris at 9.45am.

March outing K Club on 29th at 8.15am, April 26th Newbridge 9.10am,

May 31st Lisheen Springs 2.15pm, July 26th Rathsallagh 1.45pm, August 30th Athy 10.45am, September 27th Naas 11.30pm, Membership €35 includes Match play. New members welcome.

Parish Sale 

Dunlavin parish Sale will take  place on Saturday 15 Feb ruary at 2 30 pm in parish hall at Johnathan Swift building. Stalls include childrens ,cakes white elephant and afternoon tea will be served .Raffle tickets   are available at present and on the day .Draw will take place at the sale. Do come along and bring your friends, ALL WELCOME

Spring Craft Fair

The Kearney  family wish to thank all those who supported the Christmas Card Fundraiser for Friedreich’s Ataxia, it was a great success with all proceeds going to Ataxia research.

Dunlavin & District Forum

Dunlavin & District Forum  are holding a Race Night in Burkes Pub on Saturday 8th March to raise funds to maintain these lights and hopefully add some new lights to the town next year.  Time to get your  horse back on track. Your continued support is very much appreciated.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Francis McCabe who died last week. Francis is mourned by his wife Tess, sons Robert and Frank, brothers Ronnie and John, sisters Clare, Lena and Eileen and many relatives and friends. May he  rest in peace.


Church Fundraisers

The following events are being organised as fundraisers for the new church floor in St Nicholas of Myra Church.

There will be a party night on the 16th March in the Imaal Hall, where Sean Daynes will shave his beard off provided we get sponsorship for over €2,000.  The operation transformation/fundraiser is going well and we have another group doing the “Run-a-muck” fundraiser on the 1st march.  All proceeds will go towards the Church floor.  It is also hoped to do some Line Dancing on March 16th and our own “Gedward” might even make an appearance on the same night.  Music on the night will be by “Sister Act”.  While the church is closed for these renovations Mass is being celebrated in St Nicholas’s Church Of Ireland Church at 8pm on Saturday evening and 10am on Sunday mornings.

Culture Bus

The culture bus will travel to the Bord Gais Theatre on Saturday March 1st to attend Swan Lake.Bus will leave Dunlavin at 11am, concert at 2.30pm, return to Dunlavin before 6pm. Enquiries to 0879693960

Clothes Collection – Every Monday Night from 7.30p-9.00pm also Saturday mornings from 11.00am for the month of January.

Disco for National Schools – Friday 14th Feb from 7.30-9.30pm in Imaal Hall, admission only €5 for all children attending National Schools.

St Nicholas GAA  AGM – Tuesday 21st at 7.30pm very important we get a good turnout in order to continue the success on & off the field of this great Parish Club.

Flower Club

The February meeting of Dunlavin Flower and Garden Club will take place on February 12th  2014 at 8pm in the Jonathan Swift Hall. It will be a work night, bring your own flowers.  Brenda Delaney is unable to attend as had been arranged. New members welcome.

Used Postage Stamps

Bingo takes place in the Imaal Hall every Saturday night at 9pm.Jackpot waiting to be won now stands at €1200. The funds raised by the Bingo goes towards the upkeep of the Imaal Hall and well worth supporting.
