Farmer struck by tractor prongs in tragic accident

The victim of Tuesday night’s tragic farm accident has been named as 57-year-old Michael Kenny from Ballinacarrig, Castledermot, Co Kildare.

Mr Kenny was out checking on his cattle after returning from his part-time job as a truck driver when the accident occurred.

It is understood that Mr Kenny tripped over a block in the dark and fell on the forks of his tractor, injuring his neck. The spikes of the front loader, which are usually used for moving hay bales, were raised in the air.

The father of three managed to make his way across the yard to his home where the alarm was raised around midnight. He was then transported to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Mr Kenny is survived by his wife Breda, and three sons Aaron, Brian and Owen, who are all in college.
