Two Wicklow acts have been named by Hot Press as the most promising musical performers of 2014.
Andrew Hozier-Byrne, better known as Hozier, along with alternative rock group Children of the Son came first and third respectively in a readers’ poll for the “Most Promising” category of the 2014 Hotties.
Hozier shot to fame last year when his breakthrough music video, Take me to Church, went viral, amassing over 1.6 million views on YouTube.
The video, which depicted the violence experienced by gay people in Russia, reached number one on the Irish iTunes singles chart and number two in the official chart on 25 October 2013.
24-year-old Hozier, who is originally from Bray, has just been announced for The Great Escape Festival which takes place in Brighton from May 8-10, 2014.
Brothers Jack, Art and Max Matthews, from Rathdrum, and drummer Jules Chambers make up Children of the Son, who have just returned from Los Angeles where they recorded a new EP with producer Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray, James Blunt).
Children of the Son are one of the most highly regarded bands in the country, drawing comparisons to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Led Zeppelin.
They will be performing over the St Patrick’s weekend, live at the Button Factory on March 15.
