The official opening and blessing of the Solas extension was held at Scoil Nioclás Naofa in Dunlavin on Thursday night. Principal Tommy Brennan addressed the visitors before proceeding to the extension where Fr. Douglas Malone cut the ribbon and blessed the new building.
Solas opened in September 2012 and served six children from the West Wicklow area. Up until January 10th, Solas was based in a prefab beside the school. It is now comprised of 2 ASD classes catering for 12 children. It is currently the only dedicated autism class in West Wicklow.
The new Solas extension has a multi-sensory room, soft play area, kitchen and relaxation room along with two classrooms and a large central activities space. These facilities provide the children with a safe space where they can feel comfortable and learn at their own pace.
Solas would like to thank everyone who has supported them since their establishment.
