Greens want poster ban in Bray

Local Green Party candidate Steven Matthews is calling for a commitment from all political parties not to place posters on Bray’s Main Street in the run up to the elections in May.

“We have just installed new lamp posts throughout the Main Street and it would be a shame to see them damaged by ladders and strewn with cable ties after the election,” he said.

“Election posters will be put up in just over a month and it is inevitable that many unsightly cable ties will be left in place. In past elections the residents of Enniskerry requested political parties not to poster in the village area and this was respected by most candidates.

“There has been considerable investment in Bray Main Street recently and every effort should be made to maintain and improve its appearance.”

Matthews’ proposals would not be enforceable under planning law and would rely on a voluntary code of conduct from candidates.

“A good candidate should not have to rely on posters to be elected,” Matthews said.
