A review of the Luas network by the National Transport Authority (NTA) will consider an expansion of the service to Bray.
Any extension of the Luas Green line southwards into Wicklow would not commence until after 2016.
After raising this issue with Transport Minister Leo Varadkar, Wicklow TD Simon Harris received a letter from the NTA with detailed plans for the Luas over the coming years.
“The National Transport Authority has confirmed that work will begin in due course on a review of infrastructure and capital investment policy after 2016, and that a southward extension of the Luas Green line to Bray shall be included as a potential scheme,” Deputy Harris said.
“I am acutely aware of the problems which commuters in Wicklow continued to experience and I have worked with them on such issues in recent months and indeed since my election. I intend to continue to work on the need for improved public transport systems in our county.”
