Wicklow’s Historic Gaol is hoping families from across Ireland will assist them in banishing some unexpected visitors that will take up residence in the cells this Paddy’s Weekend.
Fluff and Bex, a real live albino python and her adoring owner, will be welcoming visitors to the Gaol on Monday 17th of March from 11am until 2.30pm, just before the town’s grand parade at 3pm.
At 12pm and 1pm on both Sunday 16th and Monday 17th, families will be invited to take part in two exciting snake hunts.
The team at the Gaol will be looking for help to find a series of colourful – and pretend – reptile friends hiding in dark corners throughout the building – with plenty of prizes for the most talented snake hunters.
Sunday is perhaps the best option for the less adventurous – the hidden snakes are just pretend and the real live python will be making his exclusive appearance on the Monday only.
The snake-tacular event will also feature the little-known legend of St. Patrick’s brief boat trip to the shores of Wicklow.
Ireland’s patron saint left very quickly when the locals started throwing stones at him! He sent St. Manntain back to spread the word – and so Chill Mhantáin came to be.
Family price to visit the gaol or take part in one of the snake hunts is €19. Standard visitor prices apply to come say hello to the adorable Fluff.
