Athletic training is back to normal this Monday April 28th at 7pm but as next week is the May weekend there will be no training on the Monday Bank Holiday but back to normal on May 12th. Preparation for Shillealagh will be the focus which takes place on Saturday June 14th. As the evenings are now brighter and hopefully drier we can look forward to a good few weeks ahead. The County Talent Finals took place on Sunday in Hollywood and we hope our group Ciara Shannon, Rebecca Lawless and Rory Shannon enjoyed the experience and Ciara was also doing a Solo. Well done to all of them.
There is a Track and Field event taking place in Greystones next Saturday May 3rd in Greystones and some of our Athletic Aughrim children will be participating. This event is for registered Athletics Ireland members and we hope to see
Aughrim Juvenile club hosted its second blitz of the year on Friday night last, this time it was a hurling blitz. 16 teams in all took part with teams coming from Carnew, Glenealy, Kiltegan and Tinahely joining Aughrim as the host club and what a great evening’s entertainment was had by all.
Aughrim fielded 2 U8 teams and 1 U10 team and all teams acquitted themselves very well. The club would like to thank the following people for making the blitz a huge success. Ray, Rory and Sean for setting up, Liam, John, Cillian, Frank, John, and Michael for refereeing and Bernie, Sharon, Barbara and Rosie for looking after the teas and coffees. Without this fantastic help we wouldn’t be able to run theses blitzes. Thank you so much from the club.
The U12 footballers were out for their 3 league game and came away with their 3rd win. On this occassion they were away to Annacurra. After a slow start they took control of the first half and notched up a good score, however Annacurra found their feet in the second half and put it up to our boys for a time, but not to be out done the lads raised the tempo a few notches and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Team: R Doyle, K Toomey, S Campbell, O Dunne, D Byrne, J Toomey, O Dillon, A Keegan, D O’ Shea, P Toomey, C Byrne Thayer, S Arthur, C Doyle, A Kavanagh. The U12 hurlers will now get a taste of some hurling games with matches coming up v Carnew and Eire Og over the coming days.
Committee Meeting is on this Thursday, May 1st at 10.30am in Lawless’ Hotel. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, May 6th at 2.30pm. This year the Dawn Chorus will take place in Baltinglass on Sunday, 25th May. Come along to greet the day with music and song. Names please at the May meeting. Are you going to come ‘Gold Panning’ on Thursday, June 19th?
Wicklow ARA are having an Open Day on Wednesday, May 21st and we have been invited to participate. As refreshments will be served, we need to know how many will go, so again, names please at May meeting. Monday Coffee Mornings continue – why not come along for a cuppa and chat.

Once again the adult club thank the juvenile committee and their helpers for their running of the under 8 and 10 hurling blitz. The young hurlers from Aughrim, Tinahealy, Kiltegan, Carnew and Glenealy really enjoyed themselves and all were treated to refreshments at the finish. Thanks also to the referees who helped to keep the games going J. Keenan, L. Keenan(snr),J. Annesley, F. Byrne, M. Ownes, S. O’Shea. A last reminder to all that our race night is on in the Paddy’s Bar on this Saturday. All are invited to attend to help make this a great social night for the club. All Players are reminded that unless membersip is up to date by next game management of both teams have been instructed to apply club policy no pay no play. The junior footballers continued their winning ways in the Division 4 league at home against Coolkenno on the score line of Aughrim 1-12 Coolkenno 2-8. This looked unlikely at half time when Aughrim after a great start lost their way. Some astute changes at have time by management brought a vast improvement. The team were R.O’Brien, G. O’Brien, P. This team plays this Thursday at home to Barndarrig at 7.15. Your support has been appreciated please keep this up. Unfortunately our intermediate team did not do as well this week losing to Stratford on a score line of 2-07 to 0-09. Training resumes for both teams this Tuesday evening at 8pm.
