Circus protesters make their point

In October Arklow Town Council passed a motion to ban all animal act circuses from performing in the local authority area.

The motion has yet to be formalised into bi-law’s and as such a protest has been organised by Ciara Fitzgerald and backed by ARAN to highlight the need to stop this outdated cruel practice of having animals perform under the big top.

Our only aim with this very peaceful demonstration is to bring awareness to people and we know they will make the right choice and not support this industry.

So far a local Gorey Gaelscoil 6th class student took it upon himself to gather signatures from all his classmates and presented them to us at the first night’s protest and this petition asks to stop animals from performing in the circus and it’s cruel and wrong.

The protest has proved highly successful, and shall continue until Sunday a half an hour before every show.
