Pipe Band

 The pipe band is planning a trip to Birmingham on 13th March 2015 returning 16th March 2015. They plan to take part in the St.Patrick’s day parade on March 15th in Birmingham. There are a few seats left on the bus at the moment, if you have an interest in traveling with them please contact May O’Brien on 0868677147 for further details. Please don’t delay in contacting us as seats are going fast. The pipe band are also collecting black bags of old clothing so if you have any available, please contact May or any band member. Thank you for your continued support.

Active Retirement

Our next meeting is on Tuesday June 3rd at 2.30pm. Maureen from the accessories shop in Gorey will be showing us how to accessorise – glamour or what!  Panning for Gold takes place on Thursday, June 19th – €22.50 per person to be paid at June meeting – in an envelope please with your name. This fee includes a light lunch in Avoca Mill Cafe, followed by a tour of the Weaving Shed.  A visit to Avondale will take place on Tuesday, July 1st – more details and names please at June meeting.

Run the Rock

Registration for ‘Run The Rock 11K Challenge’  is now open on www.aughrimgaa.ie and on Run Ireland website.  This fundraising event is organised by Aughrim GAA Club committee and was a great success last year with great reviews afterwards.

This trail run starts and finishes at the Brooklodge Hotel on Saturday June 7th at 12pm and is open to both runners and walkers.  The first 3K is a formidable climb to the top of Cushbawn Mountain. From here on its downhill to lap the Sean Linehan Walk and then back up to the Brooklodge Hotel finish line for well earned refreshments.

There is also a shorter 3.5K loop to cater for families and kids.  Entry: Individual €20 online, Team of four €60 online, Individual On the day €25.   Family 3.5k €10

 Bowling open Day

Aughrim Bowling club extends a warm welcome to prospective bowlers at the Pavilion Bowling green, Rednagh Rd. on Sunday May 25th from 2-5.  Try your hand at bowling and join us for a cup of tea. Please bring flat soled shoes.

Understanding Dementia

Nearly all of us have experience of dementia in our families and circle of friends, yet the stigma of dementia remains. By being dementia aware, understanding dementia and the small things you can do to support people with dementia remain part of your community can make a difference to people’s quality of live. Wicklow Dementia Friendly is hosting an information evening “Dementia is Everybody’s Business” on Thursday, May 29th at 8pm in Arus Lorcain in Arklow town.

All are welcome so please come and together we can make Arklow a better place to live for people with dementia and their carers. Community Games

The season is getting on now with the children training hard every Monday night at 7pm in the community field for upcoming County Wicklow Athletics finals in Shillealagh on June 14th.

Next Sunday is the County Wicklow Art, Handwriting and Model-making competition in the National School in Blessington. We would like to wish all our children locally the best of luck in the competition and to enjoy the experience.

We wish to congratulate all community games boys and girls of Aughrim/Annacurra and surrounding areas a lovely and very blessed First Communion Day which are taking place today and next Sunday.

Lotto

The numbers: 7, 10, 20 and 27 were drawn in the Aughrim sports club lotto on Monday May 12th.  Match three winner was: Bernie c/o Eithne. The jackpot was not won. The jackpot is €10500

Market

Aughrim Town & Country Market continues every Saturday morning, from 10am to 2pm. If you have not visited before you will be pleasantly surprised, we have a butcher, some bakers, even a candlestick maker! with talented craftspeople providing woollens, jewellery, jams, preserves and prints.
