Wizard of Oz

Sacred Heart N.S. Aughrim presents The Wizard of Oz in the school hall there will be a matinee on Friday June 6th at 11 am. Admission children €2. There will be a night performance on Thursday and Friday June 5th and 6th.  Starting at 7 pm. Admission  charge for adults €5 and children free of charge.

13th Annual Colaiste Bhride Golf Classic


Colaiste Bhride Parents Association 13th annual golf classic takes place on Friday June 13th in the beautiful surroundings of Coollattin Golf club. This is a marvellous event each year and a very sought after golf classic to play. There are great prizes on offer.This event will give visitors a chance to play one of the finest parkland courses in South Leinster.  We look forward to meeting all our loyal supporters on the day and we thank them for their commitment to our school. We would also like to thank all the businesses who continue to  support us. Funds raised go towards extracurricular activities for our students including equestrian and rugby teams, study skills seminars, concert band,  young scientist projects, foreign language exchanges to name but a few.  The cost per team is €200 including entry fee and meal. Online timesheet is now open.

Pipe Band

The pipe band is planning a trip to Birmingham on 13th March 2015 returning 16th March 2015. They plan to take part in the St.Patrick’s day parade on March 15th in Birmingham. There are a few seats left on the bus at the moment, if you have an interest in travelling with them please contact May O’Brien on 0868677147 for further details. Please don’t delay in contacting us as seats are going fast. The pipe band are also collecting black bags of old clothing so if you have any available, please contact May or any band member. Thank you for your continued support.

Busy Fingers Pre-school – Open Day

We will be holding our Open Day on Wednesday June 4th, 1-2pm.  Children already enrolled for September, and those interested in enrolling, are welcome to attend.  We cater for children from 2-6 years old.  Free pre-school places available under the ECCE scheme.  Tel:  0402 36407

Active Retirement

A big thanks to Baltinglass ARA for their hospitality at the Dawn Chorus on Sunday last.  A lovely morning was had by all. There will be a Committee Meeting on Thursday, May 29th in Lawless’ Hotel at 10.30am. At our next meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd Maureen from the accessories shop in Gorey will be advising on accessorising – so why not come along to learn how to add glamour to our lives!!  Don’t forget to have your money for Panning for Gold- 22.50 Euro per person – ready in an envelope for Kay. This will take place on Thursday June 19th – final arrangements will be announced at the meeting – this promises to be a fun day!
A visit to Avondale will take place on Tuesday, July 1st – details at June meeting.
Monday Coffee Mornings will continue until the last Monday in June – we will then take a break until September.

Run the Rock

Only eleven days to go to ‘Run the Rock 11K Challenge’.  Registration is open on www.aughrimgaa.ie and on Run Ireland website.  This fundraising event is organised by Aughrim GAA Club committee and was a great success last year with great reviews.  The trail run starts and finishes at the Brooklodge Hotel on Saturday June 7th at 12pm and is open to both runners and walkers.  The first 3K is a formidable climb to the top of Cushbawn Mountain. From here on its downhill to lap the Sean Linehan Walk and then back up to the Brooklodge Hotel finish line for well earned refreshments.  There is also a shorter 3.5K loop to cater for family and kids.  Entry: Individual €20 online, Team of four €60 online, Individual On the day €25.   Family 3.5k €10.  For any further information contact any member of Aughrim GAA Club committee.

Understanding Dementia

Nearly all of us have experience of dementia in our families and circle of friends, yet the stigma of dementia remains. By being dementia aware, understanding dementia and the small things you can do to support people with dementia remain part of your community can make a difference to people’s quality of live. Wicklow Dementia Friendly is hosting an information evening “Dementia is Everybody’s Business” on Thursday, May 29th at 8pm in Arus Lorcain in Arklow town. All are welcome so please come and together we can make Arklow a better place to live for people with dementia and their carers. Community Games

The County Wicklow Community Games Art – Handwriting and Model-making competition takes place in Blessington today Sunday and wishing all the local children in Aughrim and Annacurra the best of luck as they represent our area in Wicklow. Enjoy the experience.  Next Friday May 30th a team from Sacred Heart National School will represent the area in Dunlavin in the community games U-14 Table quiz, we wish them all the best.
As next Monday is a bank holiday there will be no training but Shillelagh is not too far away, Saturday June 14th for the County Wicklow Athletic Finals. A great fun day out.

Lotto

The numbers: 1, 6, 16 and 21 were drawn in the Aughrim sports club lotto on Monday May 19th.  Match three winners were: , Catriona, Martin & David and Derek McEniff. The jackpot was not won. The jackpot is €10,650

Market

Aughrim Town & Country Market continues every Saturday morning, from 10am to 2pm. If you have not visited before you will be pleasantly surprised, we have a butcher, some bakers, even a candlestick maker! with talented craftspeople providing woollens, jewellery, jams, preserves and prints.
