Avoca Courthouse Heritage Centre

PLEASE HELP. The Old Courthouse in Avoca is now operating as a community-led heritage centre. We have recently received a generous donation of display cases and cabinets that will allow safe and secure exhibition of all artefacts and items on loan to the centre. Items that showcase Avoca’s heritage are not of much use to anyone if they are hidden away in the dust and darkness of drawers, cupboards, sheds, attics and outhouses. Why not bring them into the light of day? Let’s show them off in the Courthouse for all to admire. We would be delighted to receive and exhibit your items while at the same time guaranteeing safe and secure storage. All items will remain your property and will be carefully catalogued and conserved.

Items on display or in storage can be reclaimed by the owner at any time and will remain your property unless agreed otherwise.  Why not add things you might have to the heritage of the area and rekindle the ould times in Avoca? The times when the Avoca Mines were in full swing, when the rhythm of the hand looms echoed from the Weavers, the days when holiday makers spilled from the train onto the platform in Avoca and the Sea Breeze train whistled by.

Old Photographs are always welcome for our year round exhibition, we will copy and return the original to you. Why not have a look, see what you have and loan it to the Heritage centre for all to see and make us proud of our heritage? Material might not seem that important or interesting to you but it could be of great interest to visitors and the community alike. So please, bring anything you might have to the Old Courthouse. Larger items can be collected: contact the centre at 0402 35022.Opening hours are 9-5, Monday to Friday.
