U10 – U8 Girls

AGB U10 girls took to the field on the 27thof May in their first challenge match of the season against a strong Gorey side. Our girls performed well, showed great team work and worked their socks off till the final whistle.

There were some great displays shown throughout the pitch. Both Eimear Gregory and Andrea Murphy gave a strong account of themselves in goals.  Our young guns Hannah Sally, Paige Charlton, Shannon Kinsella, Mary Kelly and Sarah Flusk weren’t phased by the older opposition – they got stuck in and demonstrated their ongoing development and increasing skill sets on the football field. In defence, Kim Behan, Ciara Kennedy, Jessica Mellon, Eimear Cullen and Grainne Flynn stood strong and put in some strong tackles, making Gorey forwards work extremely hard for their scores.

Our midfield players Tegan Doyle, Aine Ni Choncuir and Elizabeth Bourke showed their pace and impressed us with their work rate and continuous drive to win ball and drive on goal. Susie Murphy, Emma Nolan, Katie Tyrelle worked hard in the forward line and caused problems for Gorey defence and were unlucky not to register a few more scores. Gorey finished out deserving winners on the night. Well done girls, keep up the great work.

On a separate note we wish Jodie Weldon a speedy recovery from injury.

AGB held the U8/U10 County Blitz in Pearse Park on the 31st of May. Teams from Baltinglass, Blessington, Cumann na Mara, An Tochar, St. Pats, Tinahely and AGB took part. In total there were 125 kids playing football on the day. Thanks to all the people who helped out on the day. Everyone, both players and supporters, had a thoroughly enjoyable day of football and sun.

U12 Boys

The U12 boys put in two great performances in their last two matches against Rathnew on the 26th and Dunlavin on the 28th.  All their hard work in training is starting to show on the pitch.  Well done boys and keep up the good work!

 U14 Girls

Our u14 girls were in Division 1 action on the 27th of May in the league away to Tinahely. Knowing this would be a tough game the girls started sluggishly and let their opponents onto an early lead. Although not playing to their ability, the girls battled and kept the match level entering the end of the first half. In the dying seconds a Tinahely forward broke through and went one-on-one with AGB’s keeper Amy Nolan who pulled off a brilliant save to tip the ball over when a goal looked certain. From the off in the second half the AGB girls hit their stride and were first to everything. They put on a display that the travelling support were looking for, restricting their opponents to just 3 points from frees while racking up a great score of 6-5 in this half to run out convincing winners. The girls will have learned from this game how important it is to hang in when things aren’t going their way, with everyone upping their game in the second half to make it 3 wins from 4 in the league. Final score Tinahely 4-5 AGB 9-9. Best wishes to Emma Katus from Tinahely who was injured on the night. Get well soon!

The U14 Div 3 girls got their first win of their league campaign when they met An Tochar on the 27th of May. After a very even opening to the match, the girls went on to score 3 excellent goals. Fair play to An Tochar who battled back with two well worked goals. This was a wakeup call for AGB who went on to score a further 2-1 to go in with a good advantage at half time. An Tochar started very strongly in the second half and due to the excellent goal-keeping skills of Abbie O’Reilly, AGB didn’t concede any 2nd half scores. After a slow re-start AGB went on to take control of the match scoring 2-8 without reply. Most noticeable to the coaches was the work rate of the team and how their fitness levels have improved. From defence to midfield to forwards, all players defended brilliantly and supported their team mates. Thanks to our U12 girls Caoimhe and Georgia, who both played a great game as did all the players.  Final score: ABG 7-9 An Tochar 2-0. Other good news for the team is that Lauren Nolan will return to training following injury!

Junior Ladies

The Junior Ladies were out for the Shield Quarter Final on Saturday the 31st of May.  The AGB ladies met with an inexperienced, but determined Rathnew. Strong performances from Roisín O’Reilly, Emily Mitchell, Ger Galvin, Chloe O’Reilly and a back from injury, Aoife O’Reilly, gave AGB the upper hand for this match.

Senior Men

The Men’s Senior team suffered a heavy defeat to Blessington in the replayed Championship game on Friday the 30th of May. The men know that a lot of work is needed on the training field if they are to retain their senior status this year. Training for all Men’s players continues each Tuesday and Friday evening at 8pm.
