Pure Mile Walk
Aughrim tidy towns invite you to an introductory walk along the Upper Aughrim Pure mile on Sunday June 22nd. The walk starts at 3o’clock. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Cemetery Masses
The Annual Cemetery Masses and Blessing of the Graves are as follows:
Upper Macreddin Cemetery-Monday June 30th.  Lower Macreddin,Wednesday July 2nd.
Rosahane Thursday July 3rd.  All Masses at 8 pm.

Juvenile Blitz
Tinahely club hosted the under 8s/10s on Friday last. Teams taking part were Aughrim, Tinahely, Avondale and Glenealy.
Aughrim under 8s had two teams and performed very well, winning all three games. They have a great future ahead of them and great credit is due to the club and to their coaches. Aughrim U10s had one team, three very hard games, winning against Avondale very well all the kids had put in a great performance, Second game Vs Tinahely very tight game only to be beaten by a single goal. Last game Vs Glenaly very hard game got beaten but put in a very good performance. We would like to thank all the coaches and parents involved.  A big thank you for Tinahely for a very good evening.
Our next blitz coming up is U8s and U10s Football is in Ballymanus on Saturday the 14th of June, please be there for 10.15am

GAA
The Shamrocks were out this weekend past against neighbours Annacurra. It was a very hard fought, physical match were players from both teams gave it 100%. It may not have been the most entertaining footballing match but a very nervy finish made it worth the trip to the county grounds on Saturday. The game ended in a draw 7pts each. The Aughrim players who played on the day were S Mann, O Doyle, R Lambert, P Phelan, A Holt, D Kavanagh, B Byrne. It was great to see club referee John Keenan on the first live showing of GAA games on Sky Sports. Donal and his committee would like to thank all those who made our fund raiser 11km “Run the Rock” challenge a success once again. Those who gave sponsorship, runners and walkers on the day and all those who gave their help on Friday to oversee the course, and all the helpers on the day. Thanks also to anyone who supplied sandwiches etc. A special thanks to the Brooklodge management and staff for their involvement along with the order of Malta during the day. The club would like to remind all to start getting teams ready for our Annual Aughrim GAA Golf Classic which takes place next month on the July 12th at Macreddin Golf Club. Further particulers later.

Our Junior team despite having lost a few players to our Intermediate team in the championship had a great victory over AGB on Thurs night. Score at half time was Aughrim 0-5 AGB 1-5. Full time score was Aughrim 0-13 AGB 1-5. Team D O’Brien, W. Kavanagh, G O’Brien, P. Byrne, W. Byrne, J. Byrne, J. Annesly, P. Quighley, B. Newsome, F. Byrne. J. Keenan, D. O’Hare, J. Byrne, E. O’Brien, D. Owens . This team play AGB in the semi-final of the Brian Culleton Cup, a cup Aughrim won last year, on Tuesday June 17th. at 7.30 in Avoca.

Ballintemple N.S
A concert/family day will be held on Saturday next June 14th at Ballintemple school from 12.30-4. The concert starts at 1 p.m. featuring  trad band Coddle, supported by the pupils of the school.  There will be a bouncing castle, face painting, teddy bear’s picnic, children’s games. There will be a wide selection of stalls and refreshments. Anyone looking to put in a stall contact Ray Howes 0862152629.

13th Annual Colaiste Bhride Golf Classic
Colaiste Bhride Parents Association 13th annual golf classic takes place on Friday June 13th in the beautiful surroundings of Coollattin Golf club. This is a marvellous event each year and a very sought after golf classic to play. There are great prizes on offer.This event will give visitors a chance to play one of the finest parkland courses in South Leinster.  We look forward to meeting all our loyal supporters on the day and we thank them for their commitment to our school. We would also like to thank all the businesses who continue to  support us. Funds raised go towards extracurricular activities for our students including equestrian and rugby teams, study skills seminars, concert band,  young scientist projects, foreign language exchanges to name but a few.  The cost per team is €200 including entry fee and meal. Online timesheet is now open.

Cemetery Mass
The Annual Mass and Blessing of the graves in Askinagap takes place on Sunday
 June 22nd at 2.00.p.m.

Active Retirement
Panning for Gold is on Thursday, June 19th – meet at Avoca Mills at 10.30am – if you have wellies don’t forget to bring them! Visit to Avondale House is on Tuesday, July 1st – meet in the car park at 2.30pm. The cost is €8 which includes tour of the house and tea/coffee and scones. Monday Coffee Mornings continue until the end of June. The bus for Aras an Uachtarain leaves at 11am from The Pavilion on Friday, June 13th.  Have a good day!

Aughrim Business Association Tourist Office
The Tourist Office, run by Aughrim Business Association has now reopened for the summer season.  For the month of June, the office will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.  If you are involved in any tourist orientated business and have advertising literature you would like displayed, you are welcome to drop it into the office during the opening times.

Last year was the inaugural year of the tourist office, which proved to be a wonderful resource for visitors to the village.  Over 400 visitors were assisted by volunteers at the office.  The office is run entirely on a voluntary basis and cannot function without the assistance of local volunteers.  If you or anyone you know has a few hours to spare over the summer months please contact Deirdre Fox on 0402 36955 or email: [email protected]

Community Games
It is hard to believe how fast the year has gone and that once again we are preparing for the County Wicklow Athletic Finals in Shillelagh next Saturday June 14th with registration at 9.30am and the parade beginning at 10.00am. Please bring plenty of water and a picnic hoping for a great day and sunshine to come upon us. In the County Wicklow Gymnastic Finals we had CJ O’Neill representing Aughrim/Annacurra on Friday night June 6th. CJ did us proud and want to congratulate her for a great performance in the U-13 floor competition.  Community Games Athletic training will continue till the end of June Monday 23rd with a fun night to celebrate our great year.

Social Dancing
There will be social dancing in Murphy’s Hotel Tinahely on Thursday nights for the months of June and July.  Any queries contact Sandra 0863251337.

Lotto
The numbers:7, 14, 23 and 24 were drawn in the Aughrim sports club lotto on Monday June 2nd. Match three winner was Kevin Brown. The jackpot was not won. The jackpot is €10,950.

Market
Aughrim Town & Country Market continues every Saturday morning, from 10am to 2pm. If you have not visited before you will be pleasantly surprised, we have a butcher, some bakers, even a candlestick maker! with talented craftspeople providing woollens, jewellery, jams, preserves and prints.
