The sun really shone on the 32nd Dunlavin Festival of arts which took place June 20th to 22nd. The festival was officially opened by local award winning artist Shay O’ Byrne. There were thirteen different art and photographic exhibitions over the weekend which had sales in excess of €10,000. The festival was a great family occasion with activities for everyone over the weekend. The set dance ceili on Friday night raised €2,600 for St Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh. The Imaal Hall was packed to capacity for this set dance ceili which was held in the memory of the late Maureen Dennis who has run the ceili for the past 30 years and raising thousands of euro for the hospice foundation. The children’s parade on Saturday was a colourful event with the local fire brigade joining in the fun. The local writers group launched their anthology “Off the Beaten Track” which sold out on the night. The Milltown Singers were in fine voice on Friday night when they gave a very nice recital in Meitheal Coffee shop this was preceded by an open air concert by Dorly O’ Sullivan and Phil Callery. The fun continued over the weekend with a family fun day on Dunlavin Green with the proceeds going towards the Senior Citizens Christmas party. There was a karate display, pony and dog shows, vintage car display, bar- b- ques , wonderful display of over 30 crafts in the Imaal Hall.
There was a great community effort in making the festival such a success. Well done to all involved.
