The future of 160 jobs, including 30 full time positions in Wicklow, are in doubt, after receivers were called in to Dan Morrisseys quarrying.
Security for the receivers arrived at the Dan Morrissey quarry in Rathdrum at 6 o’clock last night, while the receiver arrived at the Company’s headquarters in Bennekerry in Carlow at 7 o’clock this morning.
20 other jobs indirectly connected with the Rathdrum quarry are also affected by today’s news. It’s understood Directors of the company have gone to the high court today looking to have an examiner appointed.
SIPTU Organiser David Lane said that security guards locked and secured the plant last night. However, he said employees only heard about this when they arrived for work this morning.
Representatives of the receiver from accountancy firm Grant Thornton are at the plant, and are due to meet staff.
Management at the plant have declined to comment.
The firm employs around 160 people and has been in operation since the 1930s.
