Para-glider airlifted to hospital after crash in Glenmalure

The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by the Coastguard at 16:50 approx. this afternoon (Sunday 22nd June) to assist in the search and rescue of a para-glider who had crash landed near Glenmalure.

MR personnel were immediately dispatched to search the area surrounding Croaghanmoira Mountain. The casualty was sighted by a hasty 4X4 party in the Ballinacor Estate, just below the summit of Ballinacor Mountain shortly thereafter. They reached the casualty on foot within 15 minutes of the sighting. A second party of MR Personnel were dispatched to the casualty site by 4X4 to assist.

The Polish national in his early 30’s was suffering from a suspected femoral injury and was airlifted by the Coastguard Helicopter following initial treatment for his condition at 18:15 approx.
