The girls of Wicklow’s Under 14 Camogie County Development Squad travelled to Rathleague outside Portlaoise to take part in the Inter County Blitz hosted by Co Laois last week-end.
27 girls played in matches against Laois, Down and Kildare and acquitted themselves very well in all. This is all about individual player development as well as formation of a county squad for the future. The experience provided by a Blitz such as this is most valuable.
The County Camogie Board is to be commended for their investment in the future that this Squad represents. The squad has completed 7 training session as well as attending Blitzes run by Meath, Laois and the Leinster Camogie Council where they won the Division 3 title so far this year.
57 girls have taken part in the squad sessions which take place in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill on Thursday evenings and have welcomed Camogie’s Regional Development Officer Eve Talbot there on 2 occasions. The Squad takes a break now for 5 weeks and re group on July 17th for training before kicking off again with a Blitz in Carlow on July 19th followed by 5 more sessions.
Wicklow will host a Blitz for the first time for this age group in August and the season culminates with the All-Ireland Blitz in September on All Ireland Final week-end followed by an appearance with Development Squads from all over the country at the All-Ireland Camogie Finals in Croke Park. Well Done to everybody involved.
