Sports Capital Grant
AGB submitted a request for funding under the Sports Capital Programme 2014 earlier this year. Under this scheme, and thanks to the trojan work done by the AGB Focus Group, we will benefit from this grant. This is a great news story for our club and will enable the completion of our Ballymoney development. Many thanks to our Focus Group, Jimmy Dunne, Ray Menton, Gillian Byrne, John Lawlor, Freddie Millar, Donal Duffy, Martin McAndrew and Michael Phelan, who worked long and hard to secure this funding which we all in AGB are very thankful for. Thanks also to all our members for your continued support!

U10 Girls
AGB U10 Girls took on Clonee in their second Wexford league match on Tuesday July 1st. Going down we knew it was probably going be one of our toughest games in the league and indeed it proved to be a cracker of a game. AGB started brightly and were first to register a fine score but Clonee seemed to be more clinical in front of goal and went in at half time leading 4-2 to 3 points. AGB started the second half brightly and were starting to get more into the game. The girls had been too nice on the ball in the first half where as Clonee were very strong and were putting in some tough tackles putting pressure on our girls when they were in possession of the ball. However the second half saw the girls toughen up a lot which made it harder for Clonee players to gain control of the game. The game ended 5-6 to 1-6 in favour of a talented Clonee team.

The U8 / U10 Girls have a Blitz in St. Pats, on Saturday the 12th of July starting at 10.30am.

U10 Boys
The boys had a good work out in the last home Blitz in Arklow. We hosted Baltinglass, Tinahely and Carnew. The two U10 teams played well in all three games. Well done to all involved. The next fixture for the U10/U9 boys is a blitz in Shillelagh on the 12th July, starting at 10.30am. Please meet in Pearse Park at 9.45am.

U12 Girls
The U12 Div1 girls were out in their last league game at home to St. Pats on the 3rd of July. This was a very tough encounter. Pats dominated the game throughout the first half and led 3-4 to 0-3 at half-time. The second half was much the same and luck wasn’t on AGB’s side as they went down to 13 players due to injuries’ to Morrigan and Georgia and no subs on the bench. The girls never gave up but a lack of confidence up front, along with a strong St. Pats defence, prevented them from scoring. Final score AGB 0-3 St. Pats 7-10. There was one celebration on the night though, with some birthday cake for Abbie Healy!

U14 Boys
Well done to the U14 Boys who had a great win over Eire Og in the Div 1B League on the 30th of June. Final score: AGB 10-10 Eiré Óg Greystones 4-08.

U14 Girls
AGB U14 Div1 girls took to the field for the league on the 1st of July, looking to get back to winning ways. They didn’t disappoint as they got straight down to business with a quick-fire goal from the lethal left foot of Áine O’Reilly. A point followed before Bray came up the field to register a score of their own. AGB didn’t let it affect their game and carried on moving the ball quickly and keeping the score board moving. Bray never gave up fighting but ultimately the girls were in no mood to be beaten and ran out convincing winners in the end. Everybody from the goalkeeper, right through the backline and up to the forwards, played their part. Scorers for AGB: Aine O Reilly 2-1, Clodagh Healy 1-4, Emma Cox 3-1, Abbie Doyle 2-2, Annmaire Keegan 1-2, Muireann O Connor 0-1, Emma Ryan 0-3, Rebecca O Sullivan 0-2 and Keelin Stafford 1-0.

U16 Ladies
The U16 ladies played Ballyboden St. Enda’s in a challenge game recently. Always a welcome challenge, this occasion proved no different with Ballyboden coming out the eventual winners on this occasion. Final score Ballyboden 4-10 Arklow 5-4.

Minor Men
Best of luck to our Minor Men team who get their championship under way on Wednesday evening, the 9th of July, away to St. Kevin’s.

Junior Ladies
AGB Junior Ladies took on Newtown in the opening round of the Junior Championship on Saturday July 5th at 7pm in Newtown. Both teams made a determined start and both defences were kept busy in the opening minutes thwarting the efforts of the opposing forwards. Arklow registered the most scores though leaving it 2-4 to 0-1 at the break. This score did not mean that the Arklow side had it all their own way by any means. They had to battle for every ball as the Newtown ladies continued to keep the pressure on throughout the 60 minutes. Final score: AGB 2-8 Newtown 0-1. Sadly Newtown’s Aisling McDonald was forced to leave the field of play due to an ankle injury and we wish her a speedy recovery. The valiant effort from Newtown is not reflected in the score line but the North Wicklow side did create many chances which they failed to convert into scores. The Arklow girls looked sharper on the day. This was a great team effort by AGB but Orla Hayes fielding was exceptional and Aoife O’Reilly’s persistence in defence resulted in numerous turnovers and set up many of the Arklow counter attacks.

Junior Men
Hard luck to the Junior Men who were out on the 3rd of July in the first round of the championship. The lads played a tough match against Rathnew who went home the winners on a scoreline of AGB 1-11 Rathnew 3-15.

Wicklow U16 Boys
Well done to all of our U16 players involved with the Wicklow team who defeated Meath in the Gerry Reilly U16 tournament.

Wicklow County Men
Hard luck to Ciaran Hyland and the Wicklow team on their narrow defeat to Sligo.
