Aughrim man fined €750 for burning waste

Jim O’Brien with an address at Nursery way in Aughrim was fined €750 and costs of €900 at Arklow district court on Wednesday.

Wicklow County Council took the case against Mr.O’Brien who was discovered burning waste at a site in Rednagh just outside the town of Aughrim.

Environmental officers Tom Nolan and Bill Ryan gave evidence in relation to the incident.

The burning of waste is an illegal practice and is an offence under the Waste Management Act, 1996, as amended, the Air Pollution Act, 1987 and the Waste Management (Prohibition of Waste Disposal by Burning) Regulations, 2009.
