Free Electrical Recycling Day

Free Electrical Recycling will take place in Dunlavin on Saturday August 9th 2014 from 10am to 4pm. The collection point is outside the Church of Ireland Church. Anything household with a plug or a battery. Great opportunity to de-clutter. Items accepted are TV’s, Aerials, Microwaves, IT Equipment, Dishwashers, Battery Operated Toys, Kettles, Toasters etc. and all waste batteries.  This is being organised by the Dunlavin Residents Association.


Best wishes to Reverend Olive Henderson who retired last week, Olive is wished many happy years of health and fun. Olive will be missed by her community. A function to mark her retirement took place last Sunday in Donoughmore after her final service.

Memorial Mass

A Mass will be celebrated on August 12th at 8pm in St Nicholas of Myra Church to celebrate the life of the late Nellie Lonergan. Former St. Kevin’s teacher , Nellie died suddenly on July 12th 2014. May she rest in peace.

Arts Festival

The arts festival committee are holding a meeting in Rathsallagh Golf Club on Saturday August 9th at 3pm. The aim of the meeting is to review this years festival and to plan festival 2015. Anyone with any ideas are invited to attend.

A bus will travel to Lissadell House, Co. Sligo on August 20th 2014.

Sponsored Walk

A sponsored walk will take place up Lugnaquilla on Sunday August 10th  2014. This is the 4th Annual Walk in aid of Kildare / West Wicklow Branch of Down Syndrome which to date has raised € 12,000. Flower Festival

The parish flower festival will take place on September 26th,27th and 28th 2014. Further details later.

 Mac and Norman Rally

The annual Mac and Norman Tractor Rally will take place on Sunday August 17th 2014 commencing in Brannockstown.  To date this very popular rally has raised €336,322. The rally is in its 12th year. All proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society.

 Remembering World War One in Blessington Library 22nd July – 16th August.

The year 2014 marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War, and Wicklow County Libraries and marking the centenary of the start of the first world war with an exhibition and talk by historian John Goodman on the impact of the war on County Wicklow and the men who went to the front.

The National Library’s ‘Gallant Sons’ exhibition will be on display in Blessington Library from 22nd July to 16th August next, this exhibit focuses on the experience of Irish men abroad during the war as well as the stories of families who were left behind. In addition, a selection of items more specific to Wicklow will be displayed, these will include extracts from Union minutes sourced from the County Archives and letters to and from the front. The talk takes place on 29th July at 7 p.m. and the exhibition will be up until 16th of August. Free Admission and all welcome.

New Running Club

 We walk / jog or run Monday / Wednesday and Friday nights at 7pm outside St.Kevins School in Dunlavin. This club is completely free. People can just turn up on the night and join people either doing a “Couch to 5K” or walk, jog or run.

Graveyard Mass

The annual graveyard Mass will take place in Dunlavin Cemetery on August 24th at 7pm. Please let family and friends who do not live in the area know of the date.

Bingo takes place in the Imaal Hall every Saturday night at 9pm.Jackpot waiting to be won now stands at €1600. The funds raised by the Bingo goes towards the upkeep of the Imaal Hall and well worth supporting.
