The Wicklow RNLI all-weather lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER was launched late last night after a 24ft yacht got into difficulty off the Wicklow Coast.
The yacht started to experience mechanical failure and the alarm was raised at 11:25pm. Due to the light winds at the time, the yacht could not make any headway under sail, so the crew dropped anchor and contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.
A lifeboat located the yacht one mile east of the Six Mile Point at 11.54pm and a crew member was transferred onto it to establish a towline and assist the two sailors.
The yacht was then safely towed was towed back to Wicklow harbour. It was safely secured alongside the East pier at 01-00am with its crew of two adults and a dog.
Crew on the callout were Coxswain Nick Keogh Mechanic Brendan Copeland Brian Sinnott Kevin Rahill Carol Flahive Paul Sillery John Vize and Peter McCann.
