Culture Bus

The culture bus will travel to Mount Congreve gardens in Waterford on Saturday August 30th 2014. The bus will depart Dunlavin at 10am and return at 7pm (approx) Enquiries to 0879693960.

Rose of Tralee

Last years Wicklow Rose Sarah Whelan has launched her illustrated book in memory of the event and it is on sale in Blessington Book shop.

Death

 The death took place last week of Ger Murphy, brother of Rev Fr. Michael Murphy. Ger’s funeral Mass took place in Baltinglass on Sunday August 3rd 2014 with burial taking place in Hollywood Cemetery. May Ger rest in peace.

Courses

Golf Results

The Dunlavin Inn results of outing to Rathsallagh Golf club were 1st PJ Harte, 2nd Anthony Deering, Front 9 Peter o’ Connor, Back 9 M. Rigney. Next outing on August 30th to Athy Golf Club.

Sympathy

Sympathy is extended to Kathleen Lawlor, Tober on the death of her father Christy Grassick last week. Christy’s funeral took place in Two-Mile-House on Saturday  August 2nd 2014. May Christy rest in peace.

Lissadell House

A bus will travel to Lissadell House, Co. Sligo on August 20th 2014.

Flower Festival

The parish flower festival will take place on September 26th,27th and 28th 2014. Further details from the parish office at 045/401871. the event is open to individuals or organisations.

 Mac and Norman Rally

The annual Mac and Norman Tractor Rally will take place on Sunday August 17th 2014 commencing in Brannockstown.  To date this very popular rally has raised €336,322. The rally is in its 12th year. All proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society.

 Remembering World War One in Blessington Library 22nd July – 16th August.

The year 2014 marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War, and Wicklow County Libraries and marking the centenary of the start of the first world war with an exhibition and talk by historian John Goodman on the impact of the war on County Wicklow and the men who went to the front. The National Library’s ‘Gallant Sons’ exhibition will be on display in Blessington Library from 22nd July to 16th August next, this exhibit focuses on the experience of Irish men abroad during the war as well as the stories of families who were left behind. In addition, a selection of items more specific to Wicklow will be displayed, these will include extracts from Union minutes sourced from the County Archives and letters to and from the front. The talk takes place on 29th July at 7 p.m. and the exhibition will be up until 16th of August. Free Admission and all welcome.

New Running Club

 We walk / jog or run Monday / Wednesday and Friday nights at 7pm outside St.Kevins School in Dunlavin. This club is completely free. People can just turn up on the night and join people either doing a “Couch to 5K” or walk, jog or run.

We are on Facebook under “Dunlavin Running Club.”

Graveyard Mass

The annual graveyard Mass will take place in Dunlavin Cemetery on August 24th at 7pm. Please let family and friends who do not live in the area know of the date.

Community Text Alert

Following the aftermath of a burglary in the Plezica area of the town last week when the thieves were apprehended due to the fast actions of the residents and the Gardai it is recommended that all residents join the Community Alert Scheme.

Community text alert has been launched in the Dunlavin area. Residents can sign up for €10. Forms are in Ed’s Veg shop. People are urged to be vigilant at all times and contact the Gardai if the spot anything suspicious in the area.

Opening hours Tuesday 6.30pm-8.30pm, Wednesday  3pm-5pm, 6.30pm-8.30pm.Friday 10.30am-1pm and 3pm-5pm. Saturday 11am-1pm. Closed Saturdays of Bank Holiday weekends.

 Jackpot

Bingo takes place in the Imaal Hall every Saturday night at 9pm.Jackpot waiting to be won now stands at €1600. The funds raised by the Bingo goes towards the upkeep of the Imaal Hall and well worth supporting.
