1,500 students collect leaving cert results in Wicklow

Just over 1,500 students collected their leaving cert results in county Wicklow this morning.

Almost 57,000 students sat the exam countrywide.

Figures from the State Examinations Commission show that the number sitting honors maths is at its highest ever with more than 14-thousand taking the paper this year, with 95 per cent passing.

It means the number of people earning the 25 bonus CAO points for the subject will hit a record of 13 thousand 6 hundred and 60 – which is expected to push up requirements for related college courses when offers are sent out next week. However the failure rate in some maths and science subjects is also on the rise.

Fee-paying St Michael’s College in Ballsbridge topped the list as pupil Conor Gallagher(18), also from Ballsbridge, received nine higher level A1s. The other 12 got 8A1s.
