The U8 boys took part in a blitz in Annacurra on Saturday the 16th of August. The improvement in the boys as the season progresses was evident at this blitz. The boys came up against some tough opposition but didn’t let that hamper their talent. Everyone enjoyed a great day with all the teams putting on a great display of football! Thanks to all the parents who travelled.
Well done to the U8 girls on a great victory when they played Carnew on the 12th of August! For the first time in the season AGB had a full squad of 15 girls and these 15 girls did the club proud. Everyone deserves a mention for how well they all played: Aoise, Amy, Aibhe, Freya, Keava, Eimear, Ruby, Catherine, Aisling, Niamh, Ruth, Abbie, Eadoin, Fainne and Abigail. Go AGB!!
U10 U9 Girls
AGB U10/U9 girls had a busy few days starting on Saturday 9th August with the Clonee Football Tournament. The older U10 Girls were invited to play in this competition. The girls gave an excellent display of football against Clonee in the opening game and Kilanerin in the second game, winning both convincingly after good competitive games. The girls were then unlucky in the play-off with Kilanerin, losing by a point. Throughout the tournament the girls played some fantastic football.
The U9/10 Girls took on Carnew in an enjoyable challenge game on Tuesday 12th in Pearse Park. AGB starting team consisted mainly of the U9 girls with trojan work being done by the midfielders, Abi Whealan, Emma Nolan and Elizabeth Bourke. Up front AGB had great fire power with Tegan Doyle, Amy Morgan, Kellie Healy, Ciara Kennedy and Eimear Gregory working hard and picking off some fine scores. Leah Kavanagh, Sarah Flusk, Aisling O’Connor and Eimear Cullen stood strong in defence making Kim Behan job in goals that little bit easier. Kim did great in goals when she had to, with quality kick outs finding AGB players each time.
AGB U10 girls then finished off their Wexford league campaign on Wednesday the 13th with a fantastic win over Gorey on a scoreline of 5-8 to 4-2. There was great work from goalie to the full forward line with 5 girls’ names getting on the score sheet. The girls have gained valuable experience playing in this league against top quality opposition.
This talented bunch of girls then finished off the week with the Rising Stars Tournament in Swords on Saturday the 16th of August. The girls came up against teams from all over Ireland in this competition. Once again this talented bunch has done AGB, Wicklow and themselves proud!

U10 U9 Boys
The U9s/ U10s had a good work out on Saturday the 16th of August against Annacurra and Ballymanus. The AGB lads put in some very strong performances against their opponents and played some great football. The lad’s skills are really starting to improve in recent games. Thanks to Annacurra for a well organised Blitz.
The U9s /U10s played Kilanerin Monday the 11th in a terrific workout. Kilanerin are the strongest U10’s squad in Wexford and our lads pushed them in every area. The boys are looking forward to the return match.
The boys are now looking forward to the upcoming game on Wednesday the 27th against Castletown at home. Training continues on Wednesday the 20th with a skills test.
Well done also to the u12 girls who travelled to Swords with the U10’s to play a number of matches at the Fingallians Football Festival. The girls are now preparing for their championship and these games with no doubt help with that. Well done girls!
AGB played St. Nick’s in a thrilling League Final on Wednesday the 13th of August. The spectators were served up a feast of excellent football from both teams. The AGB team started really well with two points from Cathal Kelleher. St. Nicks picked off a goal and a point and were matching AGB throughout the field before Jack Darcy intercepted a ball in defence and sprinted forward into the St. Nicks half to slot over an excellent point. With minutes to go to half time St. Nicks beat the Arklow defence once again and hit the back of the Arklow net. The AGB boys responded in their usual fashion and it was Calem Devereux who came up trumps with a well taken goal. Half time score of 3:06 to 2:02
It was captain of AGB, Cal Kelly, who started the scoring in the second half with a point. While St Nicks fought hard and added 2 goals and 3 points in the second half it was the AGB boys who finished best. The AGB team won with a solid defence, a hard working midfield and a free flowing forward line. Well done to all the boys.

The Senior ladies will play in the championship semi-final against Tinahely on Saturday the 23rd of August. Details will be posted on Facebook and at www.arklowgaa.com.
The Junior Men suffered a narrow two point defeat away to Carnew in the Carter Cup on Thursday the 14th. Despite leading for most of the game, the lads must now win their remaining two games to qualify for the knock-out stages of this competition.
The club would like to wish Avoca’s Chris Canavan a speedy recovery from a serious ankle injury he suffered when we played Avoca in our recent Carter Cup game, the re-fixture of which takes place tomorrow night (Thursday the 21st) in Avoca.
AGB had a convincing win 5-17 to 2-9 over Aughrim in the County Senior Football League, picking up a much needed brace of points. Played in Pearse’s Park, the AGB team produced a display of scintillating football that was a pleasure to watch. Aughrim who are Intermediate Championship contenders had no answer to the AGB side that were tops in most sectors. At the interval the home side led by 3-6 to 2-7. Philip Healy scoring 2-5 was in sparkling form and he got great support from Stephen Hurley scoring 2-2. Great points from Ivan Hurley, Barry Gatenby and Ian Kelleher edged AGB away from Aughrim. Ciaran Hyland who also got his name on the score sheet, made some great solo runs up field, and his combination with Barry Gatenby was excellent. With Farrell, Kelleher Bros and McBride combined; it made for a miserable night for the Aughrim side. James Tyrrell had a steady game at full back and was able to come up field and score a point. In a good team performance, stand out players on the night were Ciaran Hyland, Conor Doyle, Paudie Kelleher, Mark Murphy and Barry Gatenby. The Seniors have 4 league games remaining and an upcoming relegation play-off with Avondale. The team now also are preparing for the Keating Cup Competition.
Scores: Phil Healy 2-5, Stephen Hurley 2-2, Padraig Kelleher 1-1, Ciaran Hyland 0-2, Ivan Hurley 0-3, Alan McBride 0-2, Ian Kelleher 0-1, Barry Gatenby 0-1, James Tyrrell 0-1.
