Arklow was ranked 11th out of 40 towns and cities in terms of being little free in the latest survey by the Irish Business Against Little group.
This means Arklow now has a status of “Cleaner than European Norms.”
Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District, Clr Pat Fitzgerald expressed his congratulations to everyone who contributed in any way in bringing about this result for Arklow. He said just three years ago Arklow was ranked 36th in the same survey and to have improved to 11th position is certainly proof of the work being done by all concerned.
Arklow’s success comes from hard work and getting involved in campaigns at national and local level such as this summer when Arklow Tidy Towns joined with Wicklow County Council and the National Gum Litter Taskforce in promoting responsible gum disposal at two successful events. There has also been an active campaign on dog fouling with the promotion of the Green Dog Walkers initiative within the town.
Wicklow County Council acknowledges that efforts by teams of volunteers around the town, who work hand in hand with Council staff, is crucial to the continued success of Arklow in leagues such as this.
