Carnew notes August 11



On August 17 there is a change to the scheduled walk. We will be linking up with the annual Fr Willy Walsh Glen-to-Glen walk. We meet in Tinahely at 9.00 and travel to Fenton’s Pub in Glen of Imaal. From there we will be bussed to Glenmalure and walk back to Fentons where refreshments will be served. Note: this is a charity walk and a contribution will be expected. On August 24 there is going to be a walk in Co Wexford; details to be confirmed later. Meanwhile the club is continuing with summertime evening walks, meeting in Tinahely square at 7pm. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear. Full walking schedule is on the Tinahely Website.


We had a great day at the Family Fun Day last Sunday, August 3, and thanks a million to everyone who supported the Camogie and Ladies Football clubs.

Meanwhile, the U12s lost out to Avondale in the league before going on to play Kiltegan. The U14s won against Aughrim and are now into the final of the A championship due to be played on August 31. Hard luck to the U16s who lost out against Glenealy in the Championship semi-final.

And the club played is all set to facilitate the Under 14 Inter County Blitz on Saturday, August 9, with Under 14 Development Squads taking part from Wicklow and surrounding counties.

Paddy and Teasy Barnes and family, Hillbrook, Coolboy would like to thank everyone for thier kind donations to Anthony who took part in the special olympics held in Limerick from 12th to 15th June and brought home a bronze medal, many thanks to all our kind neighbours.

Plans are well under way for the Carnew Heritage Club working day on Sunday 21st September with all the usual events and much much  more.


Thank you to all involved in the Carnew ladies football and camogie field day, especially those who helped set up and worked on stalls, everyones support was greatly appreciated and the day was topped off for ladies by their respresentative Shane Austin being crowned the fairy of Carnew.

Carnew ladies  junior football team are in the champuionship final on Saturday 16th August at 4pm in Pearse Park, Arklow. We wish them the very best of luck and don’t forget to show them your support on the day. They would like to thank Hogan’s The Lodge Carnew for sponsosring a set of jersey’s and James Gregan Electrial, Majella in The Grooming Rooms and Colm Osborne for sponsoring track suit tops for the girls. Couples are preparing for the strictly come dancing taking place in November, John and Erica are holding a raffle for a heifer or €1,000 in cash, tickets €10 or 3 for €20, draw will take place at the Fox Trot fun walk on Sunday 17th August starting at the sportsfield via Belles Lane, Mill Lane and back at the sportsfield followed by refreshments and draw will be made for the heifer, €10 per adult children free, free draw for all paid up participants.

Majella and Jimmy are doing spin the wheel starting on 16th August in Kenny’s Corner House tickets €2 each or 3 for a €5 from the Corner House or The Grooming Rooms, Carnew. Your support is greatly appreciated.
