Aughrim notes September 22

Aughrim

Community Games

Aughrim/Annacurra community games will be back up and running (quite literally) on Monday 29th September at 7pm in the community field and complex. All children are welcome of school going age 4 and upwards. Its €2 per child. We ask that Parents stay with their children or within the complex for Health and Safety reasons and Child Protection too.
As always we are looking for extra people to help out with the coaching (no experience necessary) as training is provided as time goes on and Parents to supervise children if they leave their training for any reason. We hope to have a meeting with all Parents in the tea and coffee area on the first night before we begin 6.45pm.
We look forward to welcoming you all back and new children too.

Juvenile GAA

The Aughrim U12 football team had a fantastic week, last week. On Monday night they travelled to Dunlavin to win the Group 2 league title for the first time. The team won on a scoreline of 9-10 to 3-08, but for a long period of the second half when Dunlavin got to within 7 points of the team it looked like Dunlavin could win the game, however Aughrim powered on got some vital scores and ran out comfortable winners in the end.

On Saturday 20 Sept the Aughrim team took on Carnew in the Group 2 Division 1 Mini Festival final and after a ding-dong battle they came out on top on a scoreline of 1-14 to 3-06. The team well deserved their victory and it was great to see young Oisin Dunne proudly lifting the winners trophy on behalf of the team. The juvenile club would like to thank all the parents families and the members of the adult club, who came out in huge numbers to support and shout on these fine young men. The support was much appreciated by the team and mentors and helped them to fashion such a fine victory. The team was: Robbie Doyle, Shane Arthur, Dylan Byrne, Sean Campbell, Oisin Dunne, Ben Stephenson, Dylan Rochford, John Toomey, Adam Keegan, Oisin Coogan, Dara O’ Shea, Oisin Dillon, Philip Toomey, Kevin Toomey, Kieran Byrne, Alex Kavanagh, Dermot Toomey. Please have a look at the Aughrim GAA website for a full match report.

The U12 hurlers face Western Gaels in Ballinakill on Sunday next in the hurling mini-festival final, if would be great to get the same support again.

The last U8 & U10 Football blitz of the year was held in in Coolkenno on Sat 13 Sept The Aughrim U10 team performed well in two tight games against Coolkenno and Tinahely before finishing with a flourish overcoming AGB with surprising ease in the final game. It was particularly encouraging as the team were short a number of players on the day but those who were present upped their game and gave a good display of teamwork. Players on the day were Calum McKenna, Patrick Leccardii, Sam Carroll,Hugh Gunning, Shauna O’Shea, Conor Edwards, Jack Morris, Dermot Toomey and Joseph McLean. The U8 team also did themselves proud with some fine wins on the day. Well done to all.
