Carnew notes September 15


Coláiste Bhríde Parents Association will host an information evening on “The Emotional Wellbeing of Teenagers.  The talk which is open to parents and all interested parties will be given by Dr. Fergus Heffernan.  It will take place on Wednesday 24th September at 8pm in the school.

On Sunday September 21 the walk is at Ballinamanogue (grade B, 13km/3.5 hours approx), meeting in Tinahely Square at 10.30am. On Sunday Sept 28 the walk is at Lough Tay (part of the Wicklow Way) (grade B, 13km/3 hours approx) meeting in Tinahely Square at 10.00am. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear. Full walking schedule is on the Tinahely website.

Carnew First Responders are holding their AGM on Tuesday 14th October at 7.30pm in Colaiste Bhride Carnew. The next training weekend for new members is 11th and 12th October, new members are needed to keep this vital service going, due to the small amount of members we may not always have full cover 24 hours a day, seven days a week cover. A coffee morning will be held on Thursday 18th September from 9.30 am – 2pm in St Bridgets Hall, Carnew, all donations of cakes, milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits would be greatly appreciated by Joan or Venie Kinsella. All donations to the Irish Cancer Society.

Carnew GAA lotto was not won numbers were 3,7,16,24,  lucky dips were Jack O’Toole, Ballythomas. C. O’Gorman, c/o Damien Osborne. Thomas Lawrence c/o Brendan. Oisin Doyle. Next draw was 15th September in Kenny’s Lounge and the jackpot is €6,200.

The club meets on Friday evenings from 6.30 pm – 7.30pm in the Resource Centre Carnew, all welcome.

A 45 card rive will take place on Monday 29th September for Anna  Kinsella and Alan Tobin at 8.30pm in Askamore with cash prizes tickets €2 each or 3 for €5.

There is a course starting on Wednesday 17th September at 8pm in The Hazel Rooms Carnew to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed setting, this course is free, for more details contact 0864021407 or 0857840474.

The winner of the Pride in Carnew lotto was Mary Walsh, seller Mary Hall.

Carnew Heritage Club are holding their 10th annual working day on Sunday 21st September at 1pm on the usual lands on the Main Carnew Gorey Road with all the usual events harvesting, cutting and binding of corn, bronze age, music, dog show, teas,  the Hillbillies will be there to make colcannon, pancakes, bread, tarts,  tractor pulling, car boot sale, etc the feature this year is Ford Fordson all welcome. Admission adults €5 children free.  Proceeds towards Friends of Local People with M.S. and local events. Music will take place in Kennys Corner House on Saturday 20th from 9pm this is a great night of entertainment with great musicans, all welcome.

The local craft classes will resume on Wednesday 17th September in Colaiste Bhride Carnew from 1.30 – 3.30pm and The Vec offices from 7 – 9pm, new members welcome contact Eileen 0862584616.
