Chappie’s Swim Challenge and Family Fun Event

Saturday 27th September 5-7 THE HARBOUR, GREYSTONES
On Saturday 27th September Greystones man Johnny Hayden and five other friends and family members some of whom are novice swimmers will attempt to swim 1.6K from Greystones South Beach to The Harbour.

Johnny was recently left paralysed as a result of complications following routine disc replacement surgery. Lately he has been using swimming as part of his rehabilitation and has now set himself a massive challenge to do this swim and help raise money to adapt his house for him and his family’s needs. Johnny’s current living arrangements in are not suitable for Johnny’s condition and greatly detract from the quality of life for him, his wife Maite, his three girls & Johnny’s mum Lydia.

The swimmers taking part this year are his partner Maite Zuzaeta, Laura Wood, Emma Finucane, Wayne Hayden and Liz Dillon. Johnny has great plans to grow the swim into an annual event as a challenge swim for other people suffering with paralysis as well as inexperienced swimmers or swimmers afraid of the sea.
When Johnny and the swimmers arrive at the harbour, there will be a number of family fun events happening around the area including a bake sale, face painting, cupcake decorating and a monster raffle. Greystones Fire service and Coast Guard will also be there.
