The Woodenbridge World War 1 Memorial Park was officially opened this afternoon by Minister for foreign affairs Charlie Flanagan.
Organisers the Woodenbridge development association were delighted with the turnout, saying we expected a large crowd but never expected anything like this.
Situated in a tranquil place on the banks of the Aughrim river the memorial consists of 15 columns of stone, each representing a town in Wicklow and inscribed with the name of those who perished. There is a total of over 1200 name from all corners of Wicklow. The park will be open to the public all year from the opening date.
