Children with Arthritis Fundraiser

An epic and memorable day, our Fundraiser Rideout for Children with Arthritis was a huge success with over 120 horses and some walkers striding and galloping their way around the Wicklow hills all with good will in mind, to help raise awareness that children too can suffer the agony of arthritis and most of them will be burdened with it right through for the remainder of their lives.

Our rideout saw young and old, fit and unfit, novice and professional gallop and canter over some spectacular countryside in Donard and make their way over some beautifully constructed jumps kindly built by close friends to add that extra edge and excitement to our days riding. The crack was ninety. The walk also catered for young and old and even some kids ventured on their bicycles to lessen the load of their 8km hike.

Altogether approx € 2,000 was raised and this money will go directly to fund the Juvenile Arthritis Road Trip. This event happens yearly and it brings teenagers who suffer from arthritis away together and allows them the opportunity to meet like affected teenagers, discuss the impact of the disease, medications, coping mechanisms etc. This time spent together for the teenagers is invaluable as they don’t feel alone and they understand that there are other kids that feel the same way. As one teenager describes their experience “It’s amazing that it takes going away with thirty people who feel the same way you do to forget how you’re feeling”.

Our Sponsors are too numerous to mention but many thanks to businesses in Dunlavin/Donard and surrounding areas for their very generous donations towards our day.
The event was kindly hosted by Donard Glen Equestrian Club on behalf of Arthritis Ireland.
