VARIETY GROUP LOOKING FOR MEN

Auditions/Workshop for our next production The Ugly Duckling took place on Monday 6th September in the Parish Hall.  There will be another workshop tonight Wednesday 8th.  As there was a large amount of children attended on any child now wishing to join will have to be put on a waiting list.  Times for rehearsals are:- Secondary School Students and Adults from 8 – 10 pm in the Parish Centre.  Unfortunately we have a shortage of men, so for any of you men out there who would like to join, please come along tonight, it’s great fun.

DERRALOSSARY WORK CAMP

The United Friends of Derralossary are holding a work camp on Saturday the 18th of October from 10am to 4pm to help maintain the graveyard. The focus of this work party, apart from the usual cutting and clearing of grass, will be on the interior of the church building and the clearing of scrub and young trees which have been growing there these last few years. Family and friends of those buried in Derralossary are particularly encouraged to come along.

 

TEXT ALERT SCHEME

The text alert scheme will be up and running very soon. The scheme is a modern form of community alert using text messaging to your mobile phone. If your completed form has not been collected please call or drop it into your area contact. ADULT FRENCH CLASSES

In a café or in the comfort of your own home, adult conversation class.  Classes are purely conversational and aim at developing oral fluency and aural skills. The course is tailor-made and I choose topics, activities and resources which, I feel, will motivate participants to converse.  Do you travel to France regularly?  Do you need a little help to communicate over there? TENNIS OPEN DAY

We are delighted to announce that the long-awaited outdoor, hardcore tennis court will be opened on Saturday 11th October at 2pm/  You are invited to the Centre  to meet with our  coaches from the Jamie Stafford Tennis Academy. Children or Adults whether beginners or advanced, who are interested in tennis coaching should  come along on the day. COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING

The next meeting of the Roundwood & District Community Council will take place on Monday 13th of October at 8pm in Roundwood Old School. The Community Council is a voluntary group which attempts to improve the infrastructure and facilities in the area through liaison with the local authorities and other organisations. Projects the group are involved in include the Roundwood Festival, Tidy Towns, development of a playground and youth club, organisation of evening classes, administering the Senior Alert Scheme, developing walks and the maintenance of the www.roundwood.ie  website and Facebook page. If you like to become involved in any of these activities or have any suggestions that would improve the area we live in please do come along to the next meeting or any meeting. The group meets on the second Monday of the month in the Old School at 8pm.

 

 002 BRIDGE CLUB

Despite  being without her regular partner Margaret Bolger secured 1st place for North/South with Jim McNamara on Friday 3rd October, 2nd Margaret Byrne and Triona Woodroofe, 3rd  Monica Brady and Liz Belton whilst 1st for East/West were Maria Magee and Rowena Brady, 2nd Maura Gaskin and Bridie Nolan and 3rd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien 

 

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning badminton started back on Tuesday 7th October at 9.30am. All are welcome. Why not call into the sports centre after dropping the children off at school. Rackets are available so just turn up.

 

MONEYSTOWN DANCE

Moneystown dance with the Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre  on Friday 10th October from 9.30 till 12  teas, door prizes, refreshments also available, come along and enjoy a night of dancing.

 

SET DANCING

Set dancing in Kavanagh’s lounge every Thursday night with live music for the rest of this month and October with Michael and Brian. Session from 9pm until 11pm. Visitors to the area and beginners are always welcome. If you would like a quick lesson on the steps before the session begins just give Sheila a call on 087 2121522.

 

PARISH HALL DANCE

The next Parish Hall dance is on the 17th October Music and Entertainment by John Flood. Tea & Scones and raffle prizes lots of craic for all Admission €8.

 

JUVENILE BADMINTON

Juvenile Badminton started on 29th Sept in GAA complex Roundwood. Opening to all 4th,5th & 6th class students. Registration Fee €50.00

 

CAR BOOT SALE

Roundwood Parish Hall will be holding a Car Boot Sale on Sunday the 12th of October between 12pm-5pm. If interested please contact Jennie on 087-3932730 or [email protected].

 

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot. The numbers drawn were 1, 2, 4 & 16 There were five match three winners. Pat B., Anne Newsome, Ashley Swords, Jackie Kavanagh & John Glynn.   Next week’s jackpot will be €13,100

 

WHIST RESULTS

The results of the whist is as follows:- Top Score: Ann Gaffney; Top Gent: Jimmy Molloy; Top Lady: Maureen Gaffney; Second Gent: Paddy Halligan & Tom McHugh (shared) Second Lady: Mary Cullen; First Half: Mary Murphy; Second Half: Monica Brady; Lowest Score: Mary Pierce and Longest Sitting Tiny Shortt.  Raffle prizes were won by Richie Cullen, Mary Pierce, Tiny Shortt & Jimmy Molloy.  Next Whist Wednesday October 15th t.

 

ATHLETICS

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Mini Cross Country at The Murrow, Wicklow, on Friday 26 September. 

Conor Fee, Aisling Doyle and Charlotte Pelz-Olufade were third in their age categories, Orla Fee was second and Eve Leacy was first – but much more importantly over 40 of our athletes participated so they are all winners!!

Making their debut for our club were Hannah Fox, Sean Byrne, Anna Clarke, Charlotte Pelzolufade, Blaithin Donelon , Sadhbh Fitzmaurice, Cara McKenna and Arabelle McCann – great developing talent across all age ranges!! 

Medals are awarded in this series for participation so we want lots of our athletes attending again at the next one in Rathdrum in November!!

 

ZUMBA CLASSES

Zumba classes recommence in Roundwood Parish Centre at 7pm every Tuesday night with Adam. If you’re looking for a really fun way to tone up and loose lots of calories, this is the class and it’s amazing the fun you will have working out! Cost €6 per class
