Showcase of Talent in U12 Girl’s Shield Final in Ballinakill

Report by Brian Lambe/Mary Geraghty

AGB                4-1

Bray Emmets  2-4

Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney and Bray Emmets contested the Under 12 Girls Football Shield Final on Saturday the 4th of October in Ballinakill. AGB and Bray both boasted large panels of committed players determined to do their best on the day. The opening point came from Sarah Lambe for Bray but Arklow quickly responded.

The first goal came after Arklow’s Carlene Doyle popped the ball just over the head of and out of reach of the hard-working Bray goalie. Emma Doyle scored a welcome goal for Bray following hard work from Orla Jackson, Jordan O’Brien and Amy Butler.  But then Arklow had a period of dominance, stunning Bray with goals that eventually proved very costly. Arklow’s back-line was put under pressure on a number of occasions in this period by the hard-working Bray forwards but a few crossbar rebounds kept the luck with Arklow.

In the second-half, Bray showed fantastic heart as they gave a 100% in their endeavors to reel in the 5 point gap. This aspect of the game won them admiration from followers and opponents alike. Bray’s Laura McGarry and Emily Cahill were both outstanding, while Sinéad Quigley and Amy Healy were equally deserving of the plaudits they received. Rachel Horan’s late goal delighted the crowd, but the Gods were looking more fondly on the Arklow starlets. Two outstanding saves from Lucy McNespie in the Arklow goals ended up denying Bray victory. Best for Arklow were: Lucy McNespie, Georgia Earls, Aoife Kavanagh and Kayla Reid and Abbie Healy.

Bhíomar iontach bródúil as na cailíní ar fad inniu.
