St.Pat’s U-14 ladies win Championship

St Patrick’s U14 ladies added the Division One Championship to their early success of winning both league and Feile by defeating Tinahely in a close final.

Sarah Evans scored a point early on, only to be cancelled out by a point from the excellent Emily Hadden.

It was 15 mins before we got another score as a mixture of some great defending and poor shooting by both teams, eventually came from the boot Emer McNulty only to cancelled by Aoife O Neil.. Full forward Niamh McSorley scored a point and a goal from Emer McNulty left the Wicklow girls ahead 1-3 to 0-2 Ht.

A point from midfielder Weronkia Kuzio started the scoring in the second half before Emer McNulty got two further goals and ended up with a personal tally of 3-3 putting the Pats girls in control of the game. Niamh McSorley was brought down in the box and the penalty was excellently dispatched to the net from the left foot of Sinead McGettigan.

It was the same player who scored two further points to leave the final score of 4-8 to 0-3.

There were some great performances from both teams through out the field in particular the St Pats full back line of Nicole Humby, Jess Lyons, Amy Kavanagh, Molly Hodgkinson along with Kellie Phelan who were all excellent on the day. The girls created a bit of history for themselves as they were the first team to win three county titles for the club in the one year.
