Strictly Come Dancing

There was over 500 people glued to their seats in St. Laurences GAA Complex last Saturday night as Dunlavin Playground Committee hosted their second Strictly Come Dancing. The twenty dancers took to the floor for their hip hop group dance to open the show and they had the audience dancing in the aisles! The talent on show was second to none with many remarking it was hard to believe the dancers only acquainted themselves with tangos, jives and cha chas seven short weeks ago! On the night each couple were exceptional as they completed both a ballroom and latin dance and the climax came as Helen Rouse & Shane O’ Rourke joined Iona Kavanagh & Mickey Phelan in the dance off. With a very hard decision facing judges Mary Tyrell, Tommy Brennan and Darren Fox, after long deliberations Iona and Mickey were announced as winners.

The organising committee were anxious to take the opportunity to thank the entire community for their support of the playground project not only on Saturday night but for the last three years as they held their fundraising events to bring the project to completion. The group are well on the way to meeting their financial commitments and another one or two small events will see their fundraising come to an end.

MC for the night was the ever capable Brigid Joyce and she had the crowd in the palm of her hand for the night. After the finale the crowd stayed on into the late hours with dancing to Two Guys Live and DJ O’ Rourke to complete a fantastic night’s entertainment!

Sympathy is extended to the Byrne Family, Milltown on the death of their niece Sandra O’ Brien.
Sandra died in Sallins after an illness. May she rest in peace.
