Softly March Away:  Greystones and the Great War

A Special Remembrance Evening.

St. Patrick’s Church;  8:00 p.m.

 

Names of 22 men are on the First World War Memorial tablet inside St. Patrick’s Church.

Who were they?

Where did they live and how did they die?

 

Come and hear their stories.

Written and presented by Irish Times journalist,  Peter Murtagh.

Musical accompaniment by mezzo soprano,  Dara MacMahan,  baritone Rory Musgrave and pianist Svetlana Rudenko.

 

Tickets,  €10 each from St. Patrick’s Parish Office.

Remembrance Sunday at St. Patrick’s Church

St. Patrick’s Church,  Church Road;  11:30 a.m.

 

Special talk by Tomi Reichental,  who was incarcerated at the age of nine in the notorious Bergen-Belsen concentration camp with his family during World War II.  By the time Belsen was liberated in 1945,  thirty five of his relatives had perished in various camps.

 

Tomi has lived in Dublin since 1959 but did not discuss his experiences for many years:

“I realised that,  as one of the last witnesses,  I must speak out.”

Come and hear his story.

 

Morning Prayer at 10:30 a.m.,  followed by coffee in Swann Hall.

Mr. Reichental will speak afterwards in the church.

Greystones Cancer Support Public Talk

Learning to Cope with Cancer Related Stress

with Deirdre McKiernan

Shoreline Leisure Centre;  7:30 p.m.

 

Stress is a natural response to a cancer diagnosis.

Research tells us that over half of all cancer patients suffer moderate to severe stress.

 

In this very special public talk,  you will learn:

 

          More about the impact a cancer diagnosis can have on your life

          Provide practical hints and tips on how to cope with cancer related stress

 

Deirdre McKiernan is from Greystones.

She has worked as a Counselling Psychologist for a number of years at SVUH.

She runs a private practice at Oscailt Integrative Health Centre.

She has a background in adult mental health and disability.

She works closely with cancer patients dealing with chronic pain,  terminal illness,  loss/bereavement.

Deirdre also teaches in DCU,  UCD and TCD.

 

All welcome to come along to this most interesting evening:

cancer patients,  their families and their friends.

 

There will an opportunity for questions and for individual discussion.

A warm welcome to all.  Tea and coffee will be available.
