Wicklow councillors vote to abolish Irish Water and end water charges

Wicklow Councillors have voted no confidence in Irish Water and have called for the company to be shut down.

They’ve also called on the government to reverse the water charges and put an end to the metering process.

The proposal was put forward by Sinn Fein at a special meeting of the council yesterday, and was passed by 23 votes in favour, with just six councilors voting against the proposal.

The Wicklow Right2Water group held a peaceful protest against the water charges to coincide with the council meeting.
