Most of the County has woken up to a covering of snow this morning after heavy snow showers overnight.

Road conditions are dangerous with snow and black ice a problem in most parts. AA Roadwatch  report the roads to be very slippery around Wicklow Town, Rathdrum and Glenealy.

Gardai are also advising extreme caution on the N81 Dublin/ Tullow Rd, particularly between Whitestown and Blessington due to heavy snow. The Sally Gap is also treacherous and should be avoided.

The snow won’t last however, with wet and stormy conditions set to move in after lunch. It might not be the last we have seen of the snow though, with Wicklow Weather  suggesting that the second half of January could see below average temperatures with a risk of further snowfalls around Ireland.

There is also a moderate risk of widespread snowfalls on Sunday and or Monday.
