GAA News
Congratulations to Robert Lambert on receiving Intermediate Footballer of the year which was presented to him at the County Awards ceremony in the Arklow Bay Hotel last week. Paddy Phelan continues to play a leading role on the Wicklow U21 team which lost out narrowly to Mayo. Playing at wing forward Paddy scored 4 great points from play and contributed greatly to a good Wicklow performance. Unfortunately Wicklow lost out by 2 points in the end. Another of our up and coming juveniles Thomas Murphy played a key role for Colaiste Bhride, Carnew in the South Leinster Post Primary B football final recently. Playing at midfield he contributed 3 points to secure a hard fought victory for the Carnew school against Gorey.

Best of luck to John Keenan next week as he takes charge of the All Ireland Club hurling semi-final between Kilmallock and Portaferry. We would like to wish Club stalwart Martin Burke a speedy recovery from his recent illness which left him hospitalised for a time. At our monthly Committee meeting held last Friday night details of our management teams for the coming season were confirmed. Training for all footballers is scheduled for Friday nights and Sunday mornings. Our panel of boxers continue to train hard for the upcoming fight night and the group training will transfer to the Community Complex in Aughrim for the next 4 Saturday’s. Please come along to these training sessions and lend your support to the huge effort these people are putting in for this fundraiser for the Club.

Community Games
February and its Springtime. Athletics training every Monday night at 7pm and now hopefully getting longer days and maybe milder too. The schools will be approached with list of events that we would hope children might take part in and notes sent home too regarding other events that take place in Community Games. We would hope to add some new events such as Chess and Draughts but to do this we would need somebody with knowledge and to help coordinate the event. It would be great for our not so sporty children to give them other options too. For further information about events available please check out the HSE Community Games website. If you would like to know more please contact me Fiona Shannon 087 2218366.

Lotto
The numbers 2, 12, 15 and 24 were drawn in Sports club lotto on Monday January 26th. Match three winners were: Fionnuala Dore, Maggie Canavan, Liam Doyle and Barbara Quinn. The jackpot is €5250.

MARKET
Spring is in the air and as St. Valentine’s Day approaches romance is on our minds! Check out your local market for a gift that shows you care. Laura of ‘Daisychain Crafts’ will be busy making her delicious Strawberry & White Chocolate Fudge……yummy yummy. And Statia, our award winning baker, is planning some special heart shaped cakes to delight those romantic souls amongst us. Join us for tasting of Champagne Strawberry Jam and whipped cream on scones with Joan from Woodenbridge Cottage Preserves.

Planning on cooking a romantic dinner for two? Our resident butcher, husband and wife team Sean and Melissa Murphy will be happy to advise on meats and cuts suitable for your special meal. Set the scene by talking to Damien about his unique hand-marbled, non-scented dinner candles in a variety of colours. And lots more too from hand-made bags, scented soaps and knits. Cosy up for a cuppa by the fireside in ‘Cafe Cois Tine’ where you will receive a warm welcome and service with a smile by Annie.

Looking forward to seeing you at Aughrim Town and Country Market every Saturday from 10 – 2pm. For further information please contact 086-0865838.
