There were 34 boys in Ballinakill for the U13 GCA training on 21st March. The aim of this week’s session was to improve first touch and control of the ball. All boys put in a big effort again. Players are reminded to get sponsorship card filled up for the upcoming 5K run on the 11th April 2015. Parents, players and supporters are asked to support this event. This squad are training again on the 28th of March. There is no training on the 11th to allow the fun run. On 25th April we are playing a friendly match vs Westmeath in Blessington. Details to follow. All clubs are reminded that this age group is open to all boys born in 2002 (only). There are a number of clubs who have had no representation in Ballinakill this year. There is no selection process. Management and Coaches are looking forward to seeing the numbers increase over the coming weeks. Finally for any coach out there interested in helping with the U13 GCA squad, please contact Eoin on 0868282033
We had 39 lads training on Saturday morning ,a very good session with everyone paying full attention and implementing their skills which we have worked on over the previous weeks in a conditioned game to finish off the session , training continues next Saturday for the boys who are not involved in the hurling feile which is on over the weekend.
Our U15 squad completed their sixth coaching session last Saturday with a smaller attendance than normal due to a few injuries and lads playing Leinster U16 hurling. After completing their warm and S&C phase of the session, which was looked after by Shay Dunne, the players did some speed work and worked on reaction timing. The next skills worked on were, delay, disposes and evasion. Finally they worked high fielding and breaking ball before finishing up with a game. Wickow U15’s will play Carlow next weekend and the panel for this game will be selected during the week. There will be coaching for the rest of the squad as normal next Saturday at 10.30.
We had 25 players perform their fitness test. We had numerous players missing through sickness, injuries and hurling. This week we are playing Laois in a challenge. That is the end of our trials and we are now sitting down with players to discuss year ahead.
