At half time the score was AGB 2-5 An Tochar 2-2. An Tochar came back strongly in the second half but AGB managed to hold out for a narrow victory. AGB had good performances from Tiernan Mc Bride, Darragh Murray, Ryan O’Leary, James Larkin and Kieran O Shea. Final Score: AGB 3-7 An Tochar 3-6. Scorers for AGB were James Larkin 1-4, Ryan O’Leary 1-1, Andy Maher 1-0, Conor Breslin0-1, Mark Hurley 0-1. Wishing Mark Fitzgerald a speedy recovery as he received a serious hand injury just before half time in this match.
The U11s had two games in the space of a few days recently. The first game was out against a very strong Baltinglass U12’s team and AGB were outplayed by this strong team. Well done to all the new players who had their first game out this season. The boys showed some great spirit and determination against an older more experienced team.
On Thursday the 23rd two AGB U11 team’s played against Castletown U11’s in Pearse’s Park. Both AGB teams played very well. This was another opportunity to give the newer players the chance to gain some game time. Well done to all 24 U11 players to who took part.
The next Go Games Blitz for the U10 and U8 boys will take place on Saturday the 2nd May at Shillelagh grounds. For all Go Games Fixtures see: U8/U10 Boys and Girls County Blitz Dates 2015.
Well done to Senior ladies on a fantastic game of football against Baltinglass on Friday the 24th. While unlucky to be beaten on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-9, the speed and skill displayed by the AGB girls was a pleasure to watch.
AGB Junior Ladies took on Carnew for the second time in the space of a week on Saturday the 25th of April. A tough physical game followed that saw an exciting finish. Aishling Appleby opened the score by taking a well kicked point in the 6th min. It was a low scoring half but then 2 goals in quick succession saw Carnew go ahead at halftime. In the second half Arklow never gave up and fought back with a great team performance. Their efforts were rewarded by 2 great goals from Emma Furlong and Katie Hurley in the dying minutes to see Arklow get a well deserved draw. Final score AGB 2-5 Carnew 2-5. Scorers for Arklow: Emma Furlong 1-1, Katie Hurley 1-0, Aishling Appleby 0-1, Lisa Keenan 0-1, Molly Byrne 0-1, Angelika Pyciak 0-1.
U14 Div3 Girls
The U14 Div3 Girls continued their league campaign with a brilliant display against Clann Na Geal in Enniskerry on the 23rd of April. In a 1st half where defences won out and chances were few, ABG were clinical when they did arrive scoring three excellently taken points for an early lead.
Clann na Geal came back strongly scoring three points of their own before ABG took the lead to go in at half time leading by 4 points to 3. The game opened up in the 2nd half and the chances were more abundant for both sides. Just when AGB looked to be heading towards a win, Clann na Geal took the lead with a quick goal and point to lead by 2 points with minutes remaining. However AGB stayed calm and worked hard to create a final effort which resulted in a brilliantly taken goal from Aoife Kavanagh to win the game.
Again there was a great effort from all 21 players this evening, displaying great teamwork and determination throughout the game with a never say die attitude. Well done girls, keep working hard and there will be plenty more days like this. Final score: AGB 1-9 Clann na Geal 2-5.
County U14 Feile
The County Feile competition was played over a single day this year – Saturday April 25th. Over 40 girls represented AGB in a wet and windy Ballinakill today. Two teams participated in the Cup and Shield competitions. AGB U14 Div1 girls were grouped with Tinahely and Valleymount. AGB U14 Div3 girls were grouped with Carnew, Blessington and Newtown.
In the Shield competition the team with the most points or highest score average would win out. AGB started very well in their game against Carnew and went on to record a win scoring three goals and conceding no scores. In the second game, the girls went behind in the first half against Blessington but held on in the game to have the advantage of playing with the wind and rain behind their backs in the second half.
In the second half the girls started strongly and went on to record their second win of the tournament. In the last game against Newtown, the girls once again battled bravely, but a strong Newtown team eventually won out. The eventual news wasn’t what we wanted, as AGB finished in second place with a difference of two points less than the eventual winners, Blessington.
The AGB Div 1 squad who took part in the Ellen Kinch Cup competition, took on Tinahely in the opening match and were slow to start, finding ourselves 2 points behind at the break. The girls grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck at the start of the second half. The final score was AGB 4-1 Tinahely 2-1.
Next up were Valleymount and the girls were starting to play their best football. Great team play saw the girls march towards the final with a good victory. The final score was AGB 4-1 Valleymount 0-1. On to the Final and AGB faced St. Pats. As is always the case, these two very evenly matched teams served up another cracker of a game. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for AGB!
The game ended in defeat by a single point. What a great effort though and the girls will know deep down that they have every chance of having a good year in League and Championship. On the up side this team will be playing in the National Feile this year, hosting Cill Iseall from Tyrone on the last weekend in June.
Well played to the two panels of players. The management teams are very proud of each and every one of you. Thanks to all who supported the teams. It was great to see such support and all were delighted by both teams’ excellent performances.
