Community Games

The area Athletics finals and field events will take place next Monday April 20th in the Aughrim Sports Field and Complex. Registration is at 6pm with 6.30pm start. There will be races from U-6 up to U-16 with distances starting at 60m. We are also running the U-14 girls long puck and the U-12 boys long puck too on the same evening and would hope to have a good turn out for that as our area has gone on to win at National Community Games in Athlone. There is an entry fee of 2 euro per child.

The County Athletic track and field finals will take place on Saturday June 13th in Shillelagh where all our area qualifiers will take part. The County Swimming finals will take place on Saturday June 6th in Arklow Leisure Swimming pool for any swimmers that might like to take part from U-8 upwards. Please let me know asap Fiona Shannon 087 2218366.

First Responders

There will be a First Responder training weekend for new volunteers on April 18th & 19th. If anyone is interested in helping us provide this service for the Aughrim area please contact Sharon Keogh 0871255623 or Dolly Lee 0863843194 for any further information or questions. New volunteers are always welcome and no previous experience is necessary as full training is provided. We cannot provide 7 day cover without continuing on-going training of new members and are appealing to the community of Aughrim to get involved.

Active Retirement

Coffee Mornings have resumed so why not come along to the Pavilion at 10.30 am on any Monday morning for a cuppa and a chat. Weather permitting we will have a walk afterwards.

Eight of us are off to White’s Hotel, Wexford on Monday, April 27th for a three night break. Minibus will leave Aughrim at 2.30 pm to catch the 3.10 pm Wexford train.

As part of the Bealtaine Festival we will have an illustrated talk on the restoration of Preban Cemetery on Tuesday, May 5th. We will also have our Dawn Chorus on Sunday, May 24th at 8 am by the fishing lake.

Tuesday, June 16th sees us off for a visit to Dalkey Castle, followed by lunch. Further info to follow.
A visit to Howth is planned for July 21st by train/boat.  ALONE are training people to provide a befriending service for people who are isolated. Is there a need for this in this area? If so, are you interested?

Lotto

The numbers: 5, 7, 17 and 25 were drawn in Sports club lotto on Monday April 6th. There was no match three or jackpot winner. The jackpot is €6750.

MARKET

Hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are enjoying our lovely spring weather. It’s time to get out and about again so why not drop in to your local market in the Pavilion on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm. You can enjoy a lovely walk around the lake, take in the superb views and then finish up with a refreshment in the Market Cafe.

Melissa will be there with her farm fresh meat and vegetables so do get there early to avoid disappointment. Judith and Eleanor supply us with free range farm eggs every week. You will be spoiled for choice at Statia’s bakery stall and Joan will have a surprise or two at the preserves stall!
A wonderful array of hand-crafted items and aran knits are also on offer and lots more too. So do visit us on Saturday next where a warm welcome awaits you and you never know what else you may find!

Please contact 0860865838 for further information.
