Jubilee Celebrations

A Golden Jubilee Celebration for Fr. Edward Barry will take place on Thursday 28th. May, 2015.  Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart at 7.30 p.m. followed by Buffet in the Community Hall at 9.00 p.m.  Tickets €10 are limited and  available from members of the Parish Council and Byrne’s Londis.

 Macreddin Cemetery Meeting

Following the AGM of Lower Macreddin Cemetery a new committee was formed and the new committee are as follows Mr. Colin Gillick, Chairperson and Ms. Lisa Juste, Treasurer with the Secretary pending. The outgoing committee would like to wish the very best to the new committee.  The outgoing committee would also like to thank all those who have volunteered in the cemetery, those who gave donations at the yearly blessing of the graves, to Lawless’ Hotel for providing space for the meetings, to Inksplash Design for donating the signs and to all who have supported.  A particular word of thanks to Wicklow County Partnership for providing the cemetery with the Rural Social Scheme worker and to the worker on all his hard work and dedication in having the cemetery looking as well as it is.

Alzheimers Tea-Day

A tea-day in aid of ‘The Alzheimers Society of Ireland’ will take place on Thursday morning May 7th at 11.00am in Aughrim Sports Complex.  This tea morning is to raise funds for vital Alzheimer services in the Wicklow area, all money raised will go directly towards services for people whose lives have been affected by Alzheimers and Dementia. Tea Day is a celebration of families and friends who are affected by Alzheimers and who are relying on our support, so come along and have some tea and maybe even a slice of cake!!

Ballycoog Vintage Tractor Run

Ballycoog vintage tractor takes place in Ballycoog on Sunday May 10th at 12 noon.   It will start from the car park at St. Kevin’s community centre. Refreshments will be served and all proceeds are in aid of the community centre. Do come along and support this family day out.

Mass of the Angels

On Sunday May 3rd in Church of the Sacred Heart, Aughrim the Sunday Mass at 10.30 am will be dedicated as a Mass of the Angels.  The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all the families in the locality who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, around the time of birth or a child who died young.

The Man in the Woman’s shoes

 Coláiste Bhríde is delighted to host “The Man in the Woman’s shoes” written and performed by the award winning Mikel Murfi.  The play is a solo performance and is just returning from a three week run on Broadway.  The play will run for one night only on Wednesday May 6th at 8.30 pm. Tickets costing €12 (€10 for OAPs and students) are available from the school. Money raised will go to our School Development Fund and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Active Retirement

As part of the Bealtaine Festival we will be having an illustrated talk on the restoration of Preban Cemetery at 3 pm on Tuesday, May 5th following our monthly meeting at 2.30 pm in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road and on Sunday, May 24th our Dawn Chorus will take place at 8 am by the fishing lake to greet the day with music and song.  On Tuesday, May 19th there will be a visit to Rathgall, followed by lunch in Rathwood, travelling in cars.  On Tuesday, June 16th we will visit Dalkey for a tour of the Castle, followed by lunch. A visit to Howth by train/boat is planned for July July 21st – further info later, so watch this space.
There will be NO Coffee Morning on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th – they will resume on the following Monday, May 11th.

Run The Rock 11K Challenge 2015

Registration for ‘Run The Rock 11K Challenge 2015’ is now open on www.aughrimgaa.ie and on Run Ireland website.  Run The Rock will start at 10.30am on Saturday June 6th outside Acton’s bar in The Brooklodge Hotel. It also finishes here. This fundraising event is organised by Aughrim GAA Club committee and was a great success over the last two years with great reviews.  It is open to both walkers and runners.  The first 3K is a formidable climb to the top of Cushbawn Mountain. From here on its downhill to lap the Sean Linehan Walk and then back up to the Brooklodge  Hotel  finishline for well earned refreshments.  There is also a shorter 3.5K loop to cater for familys and kids.
Entry: Individual €20 online, Team of four €60 online, Individual On the day €25.   Family 3.5k €10

Special Sunday Sale
A special Sunday sale will be held at the “New to You” thrift shop,   The Pavilion, Rednagh Road, Aughrim, on Sunday May 3rd from 10.30am to 3pm.  Lots of great bargains!  Toys, Books, Clothes, Bric a brac etc.  Thrift shop also open.   Please “Like” the New to You Charity Shop on Facebook for all the details.

The numbers: 15, 16, 20 and 21 drawn in Sports club lotto on Monday April 20th. Match three winners were: Helen Driver, c/o Ann O’Shea and Teresa Nolan, Glasnevin The jackpot is €7050.

MARKET

Come along to your local market in the Pavilion, Rednagh Rd every Saturday from 10-2.  Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the lively atmosphere where friends meet friends in ‘The Market Cafe’ for a cuppa and good conversation.  A great selection of local produce awaits you, from farm fresh meat & vegetables from Melissa & Sean Murphy. Their delicious handmade sausages are absolutely mouth-watering and you may be tempted to put their spring lamb on the menu!  Visit our home bakes stall and Statia will tempt you with her delicious carrot cake, chocolate delights and of course her award-winning brown bread.
